Loved it - the Onion is somewhat an offspring. I used to subscribe to the original newsprint version and it would arrive twice a week sometimes! Area man asked to "give up the funk" ...

Back to 'Birds. The pink Bird is once again pink. Dunno an ETA yet, but it's been stripped, reprepped, and repainted. I'm guessing it will return sometime in 2019. I'm hoping later this month or in August.

I see to recall both of my '76s taking about 12 weeks to be refinned...…..Time could not have passed more slowly.

Speaking of Jimi, my mom saw him at The Fillmore East. When she told me this, i said, why don't you rub it in a little more.
And she could have taken my brother and I. In those days, she took us to all kinds of wild shows. Why she didn't take us to that will remain a mystery forever.

I only remember my parents taking me to a couple of concerts at the Del Mar Fairgrounds when I was little; The Smothers Brothers (before the TV show days) and the New Christy Minstrels. They were pretty tolerant though, and let me go to concerts starting when I was in Jr. High (with friends’ older siblings or older kids on my track teams). Once I got my license in ‘74, I could pretty much go to whatever I could get tickets for. They even bought me Bowie and Yes tickets a few times.

Two, not four. The Monkees themselves were responsible for 3 and 4 (headquarters, and Pisces...)

I recall (I think) Little Steven van Zant saying it was 4. But, having done some minimal research now myself, it looks like #3 was all or partly Monkees playing and a mixture of professionally written and Monkee written songs.

Still quite impressive to have 4 #1 albums over the course of about 14 months.


Now, does all this beg the question: If you put 1000 Monkees at typewriters, will they eventually write the lyrics to a hit song?

To be clear, I wasn't even 10 years old yet in the summer of 1967 when Jimi was part of the Monkees tour. Although I did watch the Monkees on Saturday morning TV at the time I would have never even considered asking my parents to take me to a Monkees concert, sitting there with mom and dad would have been way uncool. I had three older sisters, one of which was into wild music. I remember saving my allowance and buying her a 45RPM of Purple Haze for her birthday when it was first released in 1967. Her birthday was on June 28th. She played that record to death (my parents hated it, I loved it, possibly because of the influence of an older sibling).

In 1967 when I was nine and a half years old would I have gone to a Monkees concert? Nope. Would I have gone if Jimi was opening? Nope. I was too young to go to concerts without my parents and they wouldn't have taken me if I wanted to go. Did I like the Monkees music? It was ok but I liked the entertainment value of their show just as much if not more. Did I ever buy a Monkees album or record? Nope, never. Did I ever buy a Jimi Hendrix album or record? Yep, and liked it more than what the Monkees were playing at the time.

So if I had been 5 or 10 years older at the time that Jimi was touring with the Monkees in July of 1967 I would have considered going to the concert to see Jimi and leaving shortly after the opening act. YMMV

You are very likely the exception. Being willing to bear the shame of buying a ticket to a Monkees show. Peer pressure has always been something for teens to contend with.

In my twisted mind I'd have been buying tickets to a multi headliner show with Hendrix as the first act up and most likely leaving before the second act got going. I did that a number of times (so to speak) in the 1970's with the Day On The Green concerts at the Oakland Coliseum. I'd watch the bands I wanted to then chemically tune out for the others.

Scott had a Waterstone I recall he was less than impressed with it, the pickup position is knocking off a Mike Lull Tom Petersson Signature Thunderbird.

Regarding the Thunderbird shape and Gibson's willingness to rattle the legal saber, they lost that case some time ago, because they did not trade mark the shape, thus Mike doesn't have a worry, or Waterstone for that matter.
