Just saw some pictures of the Moderne for the first time... it’s a little bit “wow” isn’t it?
Is it a mutation from cross breeding a Flying V & an Explorer ?

It is. With it, The Clash, Give ‘Em Enough Rope and Pure Mania from the Vibrators, I dove hard into punk. Still loved my glam, prog, and Neil, but those albums did for me what the Beatles had done 10+ years earlier and cemented me to music forever. And I could actually play it (unlike most of the prog I listened to). My kids (and wife) think I’m nuts. I probably am.

Sex Pistols, the Ramones & the Saints were my 3. I quickly drifted to Elvis Costello, the Pretenders etc. The Stranglers were there and thereabouts as well, plus a grab bag of Aussie pub rock bands.

They seem to claim to have trademarked the shape. Was it later and thus too late? Are there not-insubstantial differences between the FB and TB I'm not realizing such that only the FB body is trademarked?

Interestingly, I don't see the TB headstock shape listed.

Good for dean. I've said all along that Gibson likely lost its rights by not defending those trademarks for all these years. Right or wrong, that's how trademark law generally works (or used to). It's why some manufacturers fight hard to not let their name become a generic term.

Nope, set neck, made in Japan. Mine's had it's 3 point replaced and a custom color.
