I wouldn’t say I drifted to the others, just added them to my rotation. I was in Scotland for school as Elvis hit it big (and his namesake passed, sadly). Saints were there too. And the Pretenders are one of my all time favorites. While I didn't turn the Ramones off when I heard them, they just weren’t as high on my rotation. I have no answer as to why that was. I listen to them a lot more now.
Not that I wanted(that means 'could afford')one, but that sux.

The Angels, I love the Face to Face album. I remember year 11 for trying to memorise the words to ‘Take a Long Line’, ‘Coming Down’ & ‘Marseille’.
‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’ grew a second life, to the point were I’d love to do a soft version in my group but couldn’t afford the audience participation bit starting up.
Another band that could really rock a pub was The Radiators. Never made it like some others but real pub rock stars, in Sydney at least. If you don’t know them, have a google. Not sure if they will translate to a US environment - maybe.
Their G H song has a nice bass solo, at least it does live. That and ‘Fess’ Song’, ‘Coming Home’, ‘I wish I was 17 again’ were very popular live.
I’m going to have to drag out the vinyl Face to Face - if I hadn’t worn all the grooves away!

Thanks, but no. I wandered all the youtube songs from that era I could find. Nada. Thinking it must have been another band with Stranglers in the name, but can't turn them up, either.
I am confused. At what point was Dylan's voice listenable? Uptalking and nasal - combining two grating characteristics does not cancel them out. In fact, there are grating synergies in that. Many good songs though.

That's a shame. Gibson screwed up if it's because they were pressuring Dingwall. And, that's probably what happened.
