I wrote this in the thread in the misc section. My father's best friend played the Let's Dance album to me when I was still in elementary school. Don't know what would've happened to me musically wise if he didn't. Maybe I'd listen to David Guetta and his music through iphone DJing.

There was a commercial by T-Mobile austria few years ago. It promoted their newest mobile broadband and cloud. Guetta was the testimonial and it was like: Guetta was leaving a cab to his gig from the airport. He just found out he forgot his suitcase with his laptop[sic] and now he can't "perform", but now with t mobile he can perform, because his music is in the cloud he just has to plug in his iphone and be ready for the gig. In the end of the commercial you could see him on his "DJ" plattform "performing". It was not meant tongue in cheeck and should've been impressive. For me it was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen.

Yes, what a way to start the day on a Monday. Still reeling from the loss of Lemmy, spent yesterday watching Motorhead docu's and concert videos after watching the funeral service Saturday evening and now this this morning... wth? Our legends are becoming legend.

I can't say I was ever a Bowie fan but in his defense you can't take away the fact that he was always his own man, he never followed the crowd and he felt perfectly comfortable setting trends and being original. RIP Ziggy, may his musical and acting legend live on!

I had those D' Half-Rounda on an EB-0 with a DiMarzio Model One p'up when I was 19 and that bass was killer. I had a sound I only much later realized was a real winner. Kinda looking for it again now. But the chassis to such a rig is now, for one such as I and most other of us, just plain unaffordable.

God bless youth. I mean stupidity.

I have the half rounds on my P. They sound so good an warm. They get a bit "rubbery" over time, but I really like the way they play and feel and sound.

I was a fan of much of Bowie's work. Was completely won over at the most increadable Major Tom - "We're stepping through the door..." Sad day to be certain. As I was a little saddened at the loss of Lemmy, D. Bowie was far deeper into my cells and i am more sad at the passing of this Icon of music. R. I. P. David Bowie may you live forever.

On a side note I wonder if there was any kind if conection between the Lazarus of David Bowie and Lazarus Long of Robert H Heinlein's books?hmmm

Woohoo Thunderbird club!

Finally able to post some Thunderbird pics of my new acquisition... Took a while since I had so much work going on. Got it used for cheap, so I won't complain about its condition. Nothing Pickguardian can't fix if I ever get tired of it. The satin on the neck is worn down to a gloss, while I really like... Wish I could get the rest of the bass like that. The strap locks are dunlops, but I found some screws online that are direct replacements for Dunlop screws that tighten with an allen key. Less stripping, more gripping. Here are some sound demos with GHS Precision Flats... they aren't broken in, only about 3 hours of play, but it's an idea of flats on this bass.

A cell phone just doesn't have the charisma of a Thunderbird. DJing is a fad that will pass in time. Playing live isn't. People (me, for example) still play upright bass, too. Those should have been dead and buried decades ago because bass guitars are so much more logistics friendly and more versatile. Playing will still happen. Besides, somebody has to make the music that DJs play. Not everything comes out of a computer. Keep repeating this and you will feel better.

Shoot - I'm about to have four 'Birds with four cases. Those are big cases, too. The chances of all of them needing a case at the same time is pretty small. Or, maybe pretty large. If they migrate down to create a bigger flock at our Queen's palace and Thunderbird Nest, then I suppose four cases is a good idea.
