Thunderbird Club

[Classical] woodwind instruments in general tend to be a bit irritating (to me). They're okay ensemble in an orchestra, but I'd rather clean out [insert something unpleasant] than listen to a flute concerto or wind quintet. Cello, viola, violin, piano, brass, a bit of singing ... bring it here. Woodwinds? Umm, the fire's looking a bit low, chuck that bassoon on it can you?* **

* that remark was not remotely influenced by any personal animosity I may harbour towards bassoon or clarinet players of my acquaintance.

** or my sister being an oboe player.
My son's new girlfriend is an oboe player. She seems like a wonderful human. I have not heard her play. So no judgment on that. All I know about oboe is the duck that gets eaten by the wolf. She was polite about that ignorance.

Your sister's oboe is a separate subject.

I love a well-played oboe. Alas, that is rare.

I stumbled on this yesterday - a very good editing job here folks. The music is the studio version (which is on their first record) The live images were matched really well - it's almost like they are lip-synching it. My favorite LZ album - when I first heard it I was absolutely blown away and played the grooves off of it. It still sends chills.

Yeah this left a huge impression on me as well. Changed everything in fact. Thanks for the reminder..

Is your son's new girlfriend Kat's sister?

Reminds me of that Irish tin whistle ditty, "Your sister's Oboe".

She may be one of those rarities. She is pursuing a performance masters and aspires to play in a symphony orchestra. I have not heard her play. She will be visiting in Seattle later this week. I will know then, because she practices all the time if she is anything like my son.

Watching them argue about classical and jazz musucians and who are bigger music snobs is amusing. They both want the snobbery crown.
