Thunderbird Club

I’ve pretty much lost GAS for anything but. Wanted a Ric forever. Now not so much. Wanted an Adam Clayton J (beautiful Sherwood Green with matching headstock). Played a used one at GC Hollywood around last January and really liked it. Fair price too. Didn’t buy it and had regrets. Went back some weeks later (didn’t bother to check beforehand) with intent on probably buying if they still had it. It was gone. It just wasn’t meant to be. Now I don’t think I want one anymore. I’m eyeing a used Epi 4 that I’m thinking about getting and upgrading the bridge and pickups on, maybe tuners. Don’t know. I’m locked and loaded, ready to pull the trigger...
I understand what you mean. I've bought a few things over the years I really wanted, but turned out less than exciting--a Ric being one of them. Kept it a few years and traded it for a very nice Regenerate Heritage Plus Extreme (very modern take on a '55 Pbass). Best trade I think I ever made. But I'm glad I gave the Ric a shot. You never know till you do. MusicMan SR was another. Really nice. Just not me.

About the only thing I really would like to own is a vintage NR. Other than that, there' really isn't anything on my wish list. I am intrigued by the Epi JC, however, and might do it if I run a cross a great deal.

What Epi are you thinking of? I'm really impressed with my VP. Well made and sound good. I tried one when in Nashville early this year and my wife held it while I was changing basses. I was playing an Embassy and she she grabbed a VP and before she got it to me to try she said, "This is much better." Not that that the Embassy was bad--just that the VP was noticeably better.

Good gig. I had a few weeks to get comfortable with eight songs, one of which I had to come up with a bass line of my own, since it was new. I was Plan B, since the bassist who was supposed to play wasn't able to make it. If anyone knows the band Spiral Jetty, they played before us. Technically they headlined, but wanted to go on second. So if you want to look at it this way, Spiral Jetty opened for us. But I wouldn't say that. Great band and super nice people.

Glad that turned out to be a good and enjoyable gig. You never know fitting into another band. That Thunderbird sure sounds good even in the pic!

I’ve met some clueless guitarists, but really? What is he, like 12?
Last night, a guitarist showed me pictures of a Geddy Lee bass exhibit in Calgary. There’s a red 60’s Jazz that Geddy used on Tom Sawyer and the guitarist asked me what the deal was with the coloured headstock on the Precision?
Sadly I did not see a Thunderbird in the pictures :(

You guys gotta lower these 'Birds at least at a waist-height!That bass can be used extra-high (Entwistle-style) or ridicously low (Nikki Sixx docet)

My guitarist finally bought an amp. Might see how my THuNDeRBirD sounds through it...

I had one. It's a nice guitar amp for the money, but with bass the wattage is too low. I also played through a '85 JCM800 lead (50w). Better, but still not the best. You gotta find a Superbass JMP, maybe.

I had a 4003, too, but it got sold due to finish issues (well known). Plus I am myself a funky-man, Luis Johnson and Bernard Edwards docet. You can guess why I like and how I play my SR Classic IV ;)

He KNOWS that there are only 2 types of bass; jazz and precision. It was a 50/50 guess.
musicians can be goofy......some pretend to care.......i play with this drummer (would rather not but he's part of a band that calls me occasionally) that asks the same dense questions.....when i play one of my Ps he asks "do you have a J?" when i play one of my Js he asks "do you have a P?"......he can't be that slow...some do it to annoy i think...the other day i told him that a drummer in another band i play with uses a Latin Percussion drumset and that it sounds much better than his Tama......he looked at me like this.......couldn't stop laughing......priceless...

It's OK. I KNOW that there are only two types of guitar - Les Paul and Strat. :D.

:bored:

I have multiple Thunderbirds, as do many of us. Mine were all 'burst until the PinkBird got its plumage. i would play them alternately with the cover band, and a guy who was the lead guitarist for a while, and an outstanding musician, didn't realize they weren't all the same bass. I guess all Thunderbirds look the same to some people, and then all bass guitars look the same to more people.
