Thunderbird Club

Spending a lot of the weekend getting better acquainted with this, now that that project is over (for now at least - a little recording may be in the near future). Oh, and diving with some sharks. As you do.

@GonePlaid @Dadagoboi Stay safe!

The Chinabuckers of local reknown are from Eric Yu at EY Guitar Parts. Can't see what those are. I bought a pair of the 9k off him. They were out of phase with each other, which he said was unprecedented (and I have no reason to doubt him). He sent a new pair which were fine. They were both in my Epi PRO IV briefly, ie before the superfluous pickup was removed, then again when I was selling it.

They are good pickups, but the Thunderbuckers are better.
The ones on the EY site have the same photo as the single pickups from China on EBay. Eric is charging a bit more, but fair enough. Sounds like he’s good to deal with.

So I left work early, stopped and bought a bottle of Merlot, and headed home. The wife and son went to the in-laws for the long weekend. Could be trouble. I stayed behind to babysit the dogs, aka “the boys,” and “get some things done.” Fed the boys, poured a glass, and settled down to play with basses and watch the Dodger game. Hmmm. I wonder what’s going on with that Epi IV Pelham Blue Tbird I’ve been watching for some weeks now? Still there. Rut roh. Poured another glass. Well, ***. Pulled the trigger. Waiting for confirmation. Reverb now shows it as sold. Sure, I probably paid too much. It’s only money. I’m not getting any younger. It does come with a hard case of some sort, so that’s a plus.

If it all works out, it will be the first bass or guitar I’ve ever bought without seeing and playing it first. But I love blue basses. Pelham, LPB, Daphne...It’s a fetish I guess. If it all works out, I’ll post pics. I have dreams. Chrome Dreams to be precise. I have the nice Goth I got a few months back and I want this one to be way different. And when the VP NR finally comes out, it will have a loving sibling.

Disclaimer: I won’t consider it mine until it’s here and it chooses me. It needs to fly from NY to Cali.

Anyway, here’s s a pic from Reverb:

How about the original Yahoo index? Yeah, I’m old.

I liked 'em til they started trying to be other things. Got too hard to find a THUNDERBIRD in all the clutter. And I got yer blue right here, buddy!

(Also, I had a typo in there that could have gotten me in serious trouble! FI caught it before hitting send. That doesn't always happen.)

I’m on pins an needles now that I pulled the trigger on the blue. I love Pelham Blue! When Gibby had that “inexpensive” Firebird a couple of years ago, I so wanted to add it it to my guitars. But it was a total POS. At least the two I played. I’m hoping this Tbird turns out to be the real deal. I love my Chinese Goth, so I’m optimistic! And once I’ve upgraded it to what I want it to be, I’m sure I’ll be bragging about it to no end. But, the ‘15 Gibby is, and will always be, my #1.

Sincere thanks to all who replied about my old radio, especially Chucky. I greatly appreciate the information. I visited an antique radio forum and received some good suggestions, but could not get the pictures from my phone to load. I took a closer look at the chassis and interior. Needs a good cleaning. I plan to clean it up and see if I can get it working. Here are a couple of pics. Have a great weekend everyone.

That is an amazing looking piece! I would love to put something like that in my main TV room and listen to Rick Monday and Charlie Steiner do the radio broadcast of Dodger games while watching the video feed with the sound off. On TV, we have to listen to the inane ramblings of Oral Hershiser, who was a great pitcher, but is an awful color guy.

It used to. When I was a kid growing up in Walla Walla, my dad and I would dial in stations from from who knows where. It has tubes and these funky metal sleeves that reminded me of my sisters curlers. I remember the tube or whatever it is above the glass glowing green when it warmed up.The cabinet, glass and chassis all seem to be in good shape. Most of the tubes and a few of the sleeves are there. The power cord and speaker cable are quite frayed. Made certain to keep it when cleaning out the place and getting it ready to sell. Have always intended to clean it up, never have gotten to it. Good mojo for the man cave. Thanks for asking.

Quite possibly a Coronado console. Maybe made by Wells-Gardner. Very cool looking.
