When I initially put a strap on my new Thunderbird it was from another bass and it immediately felt ridiculous... at the same height as my other bass! Which was perfectly fine. It wasn't until I lengthened the strap that it felt "right".

Time to plug in and disturb the neighborhood! Setup always comes after playing for a while. It's like having to wait until the cookies are baked and cooled when you are a kid. Can't do that!

That Trujillo crab walk is a lot like the Happy Gilmore Golf swing, in that if I tried either one I'd end up needing physical therapy for the next six weeks. And that was before I broke my foot, which by the way, they apparently have a name for, called a "Jones Fracture". I guess they call it that because after a few days of not being able to get at your THUNDERBIRDS you're Jonesing to play one again.

ok, a bit of time logged in

1. Tone: Wow! That neck pickup with or without any bridge sounds fantastic! The bridge sounds great too, but that neck pickup man o man...
2. Weight: 8.7 lbs, my lightest
3. Action: I got it lowered to where i like it and with a few small truss rod adjustments, it's very easy to play
4. Strap: I'm going to pickup a new strap and see what it feels like lower
5. Neck Dive: None. My Ric wants to dives more. ===> in hindsight, this comment may get me into trouble...;)
6. Position: feels like my spector, no crazy reach to me. I am going to make a plate to relocate the strap out closer to the 12th, like the steinberger strap hook.
7. Asthetics: Effing beautiful! (i realize that's subjective) . The fit and finish seem top notch.
8. Frets: no sprout and no buzzing. I'm not sure if it is as low as I'll eventually get it, but for now it's fine and plays as good as my others.
9. Nut: Feels cut a bit high, but that is to be expected. I'll give it a few days and see what I want to do there.
10. Jack: The input jack is very tight...i wonder if they used a stereo one...

Bottom line, it's a keeper for sure at this point.

Next up tonight: string change, fretboard oil, setup, new wall mount
Tomorrow: new longer strap, home depot run (spanner wrench for the strap plate) and some practice time on it...;)
Eventually: hipshot extender, case (90% sure it'll be the hard one over a gig bag)

Sunday is practice so can't wait to hear it in the mix!

I'm sure i missed some things, but just excited and trying to get dinner cooked and served...;)

That is indeed Joe's bass. And as far as I remember, you were the guinea pig for stripping the cover off the pickups to see if they would fit in the 70's covers that had become available (but I could be mistaken). I was offering Joe's project as an example of how it can be done (and because lets face it, that bass turned out BEAUTIFUL!!!) not as a claim that he was the first to attempt it. He sold that bass recently to another "Joe" in NJ.
