Thunderbird Club

Would love to see a clip of how you guys do that!
Of course Saturday In The Park begs the question - do you play the last part of the song note for note, or do you just make up random on key filler stuff like I do?
I'm pretty close to note for note. It's a weird part and the drumming on the original messes with your head when you try to figure it out. I only nailed it last rehearsal and our drummer was having trouble with it, so we'll see what happens tonight!

65 Firebird photos. Looks all original to me:

Hi all! Just poking my head back in to say “thanks” for the Lollar recommendation.

I sent an exploratory email Wednesday morning to Lollar regarding the black chrome covers. Luckily they were “recently found” and available. The pickups were delivered and I installed them today. That’s pretty fast, considering they came from Washington state to SW Florida.

I must say these pickups give me that clarity I was chasing with the string shuffling. Not quite Jazz bass snappy, but thick and clear. Just the right amount of definition. :bassist:
I may even go back and retry my beloved Dunlop Super Bright Nickels.

I didn’t do anything with the stock 500K pots, and I’ll have to wait until next weekend for a live test drive to see how they do, but so far I’m liking them. Even with well worn Rotos, they ring clearly, while maintaining a thickness down below that seems characteristic of the TBird. I can’t tell if they’re as hot as the Gibsons, but There’s no noticeable drop in volume in my bat cave.

The last bit I may still fudge with is the mounting. The Lollars are half the thickness of the stock Gibson pickups. Lollar provides extra foam, but I added some heavier padding underneath the centers, just to have a bit more stability. They’re extended almost entirely out of the body, due in part to that tall Babicz bridge.

So that’s all I got for now. Thanks again for your support and guidance! :hyper:

Interesting finding playing with the Eagle. Even though it's a little lighter than my Thunderbird, it feels heavier on my shoulder. My usual MONO Doolittle strap was a bit too minimal for it. Fortunately I had a RightOn Cork strap that does the trick. Very nice and comfortable. I find their adjustment system kind of gimmicky, but the strap is nice and comfortable. They have a whole line of vegan straps. It looks a lot nicer in person than in the photo.

Nice eclectic set. So are the different font colors for tuning or is it something else like lead vocal?
BTW - tell Clint I said hi.
