Wow, I'm amazed at how little shipping protection is incorporated. (box padding etc) Glad it got there in one piece!
Actually, it was packaged pretty well. It was all taped up in it's stock box, then in another box, then put in another big box and all taped up so there was a lot of "dead" space/air between several layers.
It was shipped from Sam Ash and i bought it as an open/mint item and I have to say, if they didn't say it was opened, I doubt I would have never known...

That looks wonderful. Did you know the weight when you bought it? There was an 8.7 or thereabouts on Sweetwater I was watching (and a couple in the 10 lb. area). From your later post I see it was from SA. Gotta admit, SA isn’t a site I watch. It looks like maybe I should. CONGRATS!And here it is!
Unfortunately I didn't do anything other that just play it unplugged for a bit, but I did weigh it. 8.7 lbs making it my lightest bass...
I'll get to dig into it tonight after I finish up work.
A friend of mine spent several years on an extended sailing trip in South America..He saw the guitar playing skeleton dude in a local market and picked it up for me..it fit in with the rest of the voodoo decorations..all carved by hand.

No I took a gamble. I actually found it on reverb where SA had it listed. Only a stock pic too but I felt with the return policy I was covered if I didn’t like it.

Kidding of course, but on-line with liberal returns pretty much appears to be the primary way most of us can get birds. They are scarce in stores, at least near me. I’m in SoCal where there are a gazillion musicians. Even a few bass players. Plenty of FSOs and G&Ls, a fair number of Rics, but little else I like. Those companies seem to pay attention to the stores, at least those near their factories. I’ve been told by a couple stores that still carry Gibson that the reps rarely communicate. And when they do, only really pay attention to Les Pauls and high dollar acoustics. I got lucky with my ‘15 that was in a GC and the Goth that was in an independant. The current reality. And knowing how to do setups is pretty much essential IMO.

I had the same thoughts.
Questionable story that implies this is not a Ric built bass, but was built by someone that worked there. Which, if true means this is a counterfeit bass because the sale advertisement clearly calls it a 2004 Rickenbacker 4005. I know next to nothing about Ric, but did they even make a 4005 model in 2004? All that aside, to my eyes it's very cool looking and with the TBird pup in a semi hollow body might be very unique sounding. I'd pay $1500 for it if it had a guitar center type return policy, but it doesn't and the asking price is well north of that.
I bought my VP through them as well. As mentioned above, it survived just fine. I was told it was "used" and got it for a used price (but with warranty). But used must have meant someone bought it, took it home, looked at it and then returned it. I could find no indication anywhere that it was ever touched after leaving the factory.
Great set list, that's a lotta tunes and most of them hard rockin!
But more importantly, that first pic is just PURE SEX!
