Thunderbird Club

Back when bass players played BASS and not treble!

Yes - exactly that. The kind of bass you feel more than hear definition of notes. Jaco played a J with a lot of the bridge pu to achieve more definition, but he was one of the Acoustic 360 users (had 2 on stage) expressly for the purpose to physically 'touch' the audience. Bass is physical when you can feel it thumping against your chest. Of course now the house systems are all about doing that, but mostly the kick-drum...

I play a white `bird. @JJR58 plays one. Assuming you are running stats on this, your p is clearly less than one, and may not be much more than 0.5.*

* for those not well versed in statistics and the binomial distribution, the p of a binomial distribution is the probability of an outcome. If the probability is 0.5, then the tested condition is as likely to be untrue as it is to be true.**

** for those still needing clarification, @JJR and I are not cool, and we have white Thunderbirds. The hypothesis that cool people play white Thunderbirds may not be testing as true.***

*** Thunderbirds are cool, but there are people who are not cool who play them also. Perhaps the player is not the best way to judge a Thunderbird.

I'm being very Postmodern, even Rousseauian today (my actual polar opposite), so facts and rationality are irrelevant. It's how I feel that really matters.

Like I said, off the top of my head.;) Didn't say the top was like a Aircraft Carrier!

At least I admitted I was cool at one time. No Postmodern nonsense there. I really was.:D I think. I can't really be sure. Crap, there's that Postmodern thing again.

They said there would be no math!

Yes, mostly correct although 70's T-birds also had sidewinder pu's in the standard T-bird IV positions. "mud"-buckers and standard Seth Lover humbuckers are at the end of the day both hum-cancelling pu's. When any version of these pu's were hugging the neck heel they were truly "mud-buckers" due to the low tone pu position. 70's Tele bass also had one SL bucker very near the "mud" position. It's not uncommon to see them modded with another pu (P or J) to get some mid-definition. Also - in that period many players modded their P's and J's by adding a mud-bucker at the neck heal for more low-tones. That was back when they were going through Acoustic's with 18" drivers, or a series of 15" drivers for the same reason - more bass!
I still kick myself in the keester for selling my 66 EB-3, MudBucker at neck heel.:banghead::banghead::banghead:

I quit at binomial distribution.

Oh, we're cool alright.

the kids are alright at DuckDuckGo

Hmmmm...
$300 for pickups, tuners, two piece bridge, knobs and electronics. Not bad if you want to chrome out an existing TBird.
The rest isn't worth keeping or fixing.
Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. But for the new blue, I’m not going the vintage bridge route. But if the tuners would work and the pickups would fit, maybe...how are the tuners on them? I recall one post on here calling the c**p. But I haven’t seen the rest of you complain...

I'm going to be replacing mine (the tuners)...I consider them the worst item on the bass. They seem to hold tune fine but i find they don't turn smoothly at all. I'm going to give them a few weeks to see if they improve, but I'll likely swap them out for some hipshot ultralights with an xtender.
