Thunderbird Club

Well we’ve gone from dry season to rainy season here in Vancouver. Time to adjust some truss rods!
I had to tweak my VP last night and has this brain flash. I wrote 4mm on the inside of the truss rod cover with a silver sharpie. This will save the trouble of figuring out the Allen key size next time.
I just get a little more prehistoric when the weather changes. Adjustments? Uh... having insensitive hands saves a bit of work sometimes. I haven't found that the necks of my bass guitars (or guitars) move enough to need a whole lot of adjustment anyway. Playing with what most around here would consider a high action is probably part of it. Even if the neck moves, there's no fret buzz.

Yes, those look solid and reliable. But to install one requires measurement and accuracy for which I do not have the patience and for which I will not pay someone.

Interesting aside - the Ric that Geddy played for so may years does not have a Ric bridge - it has a Badass installed.

I always found this to be an interesting mod to a Ric.

That sucks. It's happening more and more in the Bay Area. club down - condo up
There's a big fight here in Seattle to keep the Showbox from being torn down and replaced by a condo tower. It's a classic venue right by the Pike Market. Pretty much anybody who ever came through Seattle and didn't play in an arena has played there. I have seen several great shows played by great bands there. Its problem is that it sits on prime real estate as far as developers are concerned. My guess is that it's toast in the long run. The city has landmarked it, even though it has absolutely no architectural uniqueness of any kind. It is just a big, empty box with a few ramps, a bar, and a stage. But, it is gigantic in the cultural history of this city.

All it takes is a city council wanting to line their pockets and -poof!- (cultural history? how quaint)

I thought I remembered some consternation about Babicz? To my eye, they seem really well built and easy to mount/ use. Then again, so does the HipShot, lol.... hrmm.... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I have no such intent
From an engineering perspective there is a design flaw in the Hipshot bridge that can result in inadvertently pulling the studs loose if installed on a Gibson bass by an overzealous bolt tightener. I don't think it's an issue on an Eppi bass. IIRC the Babicz bridge does not incorporate the same design flaw, so should be safe to use on either a Gibby or Eppi.

Correction made to the original post, this post is now correct.

believe it's the other way around..

believe it's the other way around..
Haven't had my coffee yet. As soon as I posted that, I thought... wait a minute, was it the Hipshot with the bottom bridge cutout for the raised Eppi studs or was it the Bab?

I think you're right, it's the Hipshot that has cutout, but now I'd need to see a pic of the bottom of each one to be certain.

I have a friend who is a twin. She is not identical to her twin brother (no, I don't mean around here, either). Her parents had one kid. Then they decided to have a second. That was twins. They thought they were done at three. Then they had an oops that turned out to be another set of twins. One of those twins was my friend. She was pretty happy they had that little slip-up. Her poor parents started out with the idea that they would have two kids and ended up with five in a big hurry. Only one was a girl. She's about as tough as they come. Surprise.

wow, two sets of twins - wonder how rare/common that is

It's the Hipshot.

Based on that input, I flipped a coin... here's the result....

Same here. I don’t even like changing strings. However, my main player has developed an Evel Knievel Jumping Over The Caesar’s Palace Fountain ramp. The truss is in the heal and requires a bendy/articulating socket. Or pull the neck. Ha! Ha! Like I’m going to do that! Someday. Soon. Maybe.

I don't know. But I can imagine the reaction her parents must have had when they found out they were getting a second set. I heard lots of other stories from her and her older brother, who was one of the second set of twins. The two of them were very close with each other, and each of their twins floated in and out of the picture. It was an interesting situation and an interesting family. This reminds me that I haven't been in touch with either of them for a few years - time to find them and say hello.
