Thunderbird Club

Cool video and song. Looks like either an SG or an EB0 (never get a good enough look at the headstock and I'm not going through frame by frame to find out).

Maybe Dirty Groove Rock is the new name of Riff Rock? Too many genres for me to keep track of these day. I guess I am back to high school categories - music I like and music that SUCKS!

I like GVF and I like Crobot. I would put both in a similar category, but I can't say that I like one more than the other.

I ran across Crobot a few weeks ago when it turned up in a Spotify "music you might like" playlist.

This is probably a stupid comparison but Crobot seems like a gritty version of Rival Sons without the grandeur and self-importance (I don't know if that even makes sense). In other words, I like the Crobot feel/sound better.

BINGO

My band has been known to play these two songs -

...and we're no richer doing so!

I was always partial to this one:

Never heard of him, but even when I played country, I wasn’t into the scene:cautious:
A pro drummer recently told me country is where the money is to be made as a musician.
DR left Hootie to follow that path. From what I hear he's been pretty successful at it, not sure if it's more money for him though.

forgot the rye manhattans..
Never got into the whole alcohol consumption to unwind thing, or as a pick me up when feeling down. Too concerned I could easily make it a habit, and I have enough of those already.

The day doesn't really matter. It's the intent.

That picture looks vaguely familiar, is it one of those bass things named after a car of some sort? Haven't seen one on this thread in so long I've forgotten what you call it, but it sure is pretty. ;)

And now for something completely different with Natalie Merchant (and a THUNDERBIRD disguised as a DB). If you don't watch anything else, skip to 18:50 . She turns it into a singalong with the audience, teaching them a traditional hymn no one there besides her and the band had heard of. (I hadn't, either.)

I'm with you, Natalie. I love NPR, too. Including Tiny Desk concerts!

Very wise....

So because of timing, I was really receptive to all exciting new music when 'prog-rock' surfaced. Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report (from day 1), the first King Crimson albums, a roommate had Gentle Giant LP's... (into Yes etc) - so I have a soft-spot for the 'roots' of prog.

I went through a brief Osibisa phase.

I think Spotify presented it because of listening to Rival Sons, GvF, The Lazys, and Finger Eleven. All fit in a similar group. Finger Eleven is local to me (I ran into the singer in a book store recently) and are well worth checking out.

My life as a Gothic novel, Chapter 387. Venue for forthcoming Thunderbird outing has closed down.
That's always a downer when you were looking forward to what you thought was going to be a nice gig. Hate to hear that. You miss a gig and a lot of people miss out on hearing a Thunderbird.
