Back in the day in Austin, there were a number of bars and small clubs with great music reputations, so people went to catch new acts. It was a great way to build a fan base, and still symbiotic. Now most of them bring in most anyone who will play for tips. Ugh.Exactly. It's a Catch 22. New band would need to have built up some sort of following to get people in. Bribing your friends isn't good enough.
Exactly. If a bar has a reputation for great acts, a new band can draw a crowd and if they dont suck, they can be a draw for the bar. And a band with a good reputation acc bring on the punters.Back in the day in Austin, there were a number of bars and small clubs with great music reputations, so people went to catch new acts. You say that like hair-metal was all bad. As much as I agree that there was terrible hair-metal, there were some great bands/songs as well.Yep it’s recycled hair band music.![]()

This local beer goes well with my THUNDERBIRD. More coconut than others like it. Lip-smacking sour pineapple. This one is a winner.
Celebrating the first Wednesday of the week.TGIF
Nope. Unskilled import labor tuned out to be against union rules.I thought you were going to play drums with her. Don’t you already have a ticket?
Dives have said they would allow us to touch their stage if we brought 50 people at 1 am on a Tuesday night. Uh, right. Skipping that great honor was tough, but we did it.Saw one venue offering a night. They want you to bring four or five bands and a couple of hundred people.
I make less per gig now than I did in the 70s-including inflation adjustment. It's a subsidised hobby.Back in the day in Austin, there were a number of bars and small clubs with great music reputations, so people went to catch new acts. It was a great way to build a fan base, and still symbiotic. Now most of them bring in most anyone who will play for tips. Ugh.
In at least one video, Skorps had 2 Firebirds and a THUNDERBIRD.You say that like hair-metal was all bad. As much as I agree that there was terrible hair-metal, there were some great bands/songs as well.
Hair-metal gave us (in no particular order and not exhaustive):
Guns n Roses,
Motley Crue (Thunderbird)
Scorpions,
Iron Maiden,
Bon Jovi,
The Cult,
Lynch Mob (George Lynch)
Joe Satriani (although without hair)
Steve Vai
Judas Priest,
Billy Sheehan,
Michael Schenker Group,
All great players/bands. But there was a lot of terrible bands/music too.
