Thunderbird Club

Just wrapped up week six with the cast on. Had a Dr visit today and they removed the cast to check for mending. Much to my relief, the bone is healing and better than expected progress has been made. Looks like I'll avoid the surgery and titanium rod treatment! Now I have a removable "ski" boot I get to wear during the day for the next month with instructions to gently start trying to walk and put pressure on the foot, backing off if there's any pain.

Feels so nice to finally have that cast off. I plan on strapping on my 2015 THUNDERBIRD tomorrow to see if I can stand and make it through at least a few songs. Doc says she'll know for sure in a few weeks if any PT will be needed. Needless to say, I'm so stoked with the good news I can't get to sleep, hence 4:00am posting on TB.
I’m not a doctor. And I’m sure your orthopod knows what she’s doing. But I would encourage her to give you a PT referral for at least a couple visits to get you squared away on some appropriate home exercises to perform once it’s heeled.

That's a great question, unfortunately vegan cuisine is completely out of my area of expertise. I'm thoroughly addicted to high protein meals. In fact, the more meat the better. I'm that guy that goes to a pizza joint and orders a "meat lovers" pizza then requests it to be topped with additional meat. Beef, poultry, seafood, pork - it's all the same to me, pile it on the plate and I'm happy. I can't even eat a salad without putting some kind of meat on it. Love my veggies and starches as well, but gotta have meat or it's not a meal.
If we weren't meant to eat meat, then why do we have canine teeth?

Ah, that would be a Ford Fairmont.
I had expunged that name from my memory. That's what it was. It was a nice looking car. It was also stationary at truly awkward times. Nothing like having a rocker arm shear off just as you are pulling into traffic. No noise, no tapping, no weirdness. Just a bang and a permanent stall with rural road traffic bearing down. People in rural Ohio do not waste a lot of time on back roads, which means a stall like that could have been fatal. That was only the most memorable of a string of failures it had. Even Lucas Electric parts couldn't be as awful as that car. As I recall, that car stuck around about four years before getting replaced. That's about three and a half years too long.

I've gravitated to heavier strings in recent years and also playing with a pick - developed a whole new approach to playing. Never was one to aggressively bend strings but always like those players who do!

The Flamingo has .110s on it for the time being. They are Bass Burners, and I don't like the way they sound that much so far, but I sure do like the way they feel and the level of definition I get out of them. Maybe it's just the way they sound with Chinabuckers. They had too much dusty brown in the sound to the point the sound almost has a smell like overheated transformer insulation. That's the last thing I need - another weird mental path getting burned into my ear wiring. But, they are beginning to sound better. Maybe they just need to break in. Maybe I'm just getting used to the sound. Either way, they get another month or two before final judgment.

I really feel like my string game is fairly weak now. I've never actually tried different gauge strings or rounds vs flats and having rarely ever replaced strings with new ones I really don't even notice the difference between the sound of old vs new. So apparently my string game is rather mediocre too. Or maybe I should look up that "crappy bass player with expensive gear" club.......... :(

If we assume a single place setting for a traditional English breakfast consists of one slice of toast, two eggs over easy, three tomato slices, three strips of bacon and one beaker of English breakfast tea you'll quickly realize there are about 3,000 Standard English Breakfasts (SEB) in every kilometer. As a bonified food addict I'm good with that metric.

However, in the ongoing quest to remain on topic, we should use the preferred international metric of this particular club. We know the length of a typical Thunderbird is just shy of 4 SEB, Therefore, we would instead say 3,000 standard English breakfasts (which equals 1km) are equivalent to about 750 Thunderbirds. In practical terms we would then interpret this sign....

As "Slippery Road, Limit Speed to 22,500 Thunderbirds Per Hour".

:eek:I think I'm gonna need to buy more THUNDERBIRDS.:D
forgot the banger, beans, mushrooms and occasional black or white pudding..

The joy of being a crappy bass player with expensive gear is that if you improve your skill level, you have to buy another bass or something like that to make up for it. It's a win all around.

Don't get "too antsy" not worth a relapse which will set you back even further, been there done that...
Great, just what I needed, a voice of reason. ;)

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

The "boot" is still a cast and provides good stability. But it does allow you to move about much more freely. A bit weird to walk in, but it returns a huge amount of freedom and getting back to weight bearing aids the healing process (good bone mineralization depends upon applying some stress to the bone). Very good that you are avoiding surgery; as much as it assures a proper union, avoiding being opened up is always good. I don't know if the bone is big enough to apply a plate (too small for a rod) or if staples would be used.*

Don't over do things, but don't baby it either. All good things in moderation.

* I am not an orthopaedic surgeon, nor do I play one on TV. I don't stay in a Holiday Inn if there are other options.
It was actually the ball of the knuckle that broke, so doc said a pin was an option. Just glad I've avoided that option.

If we aren't supposed to eat meat, why is it so delicious?
Cows release more green houses gasses than my car does, and plants recycle CO2 into oxygen - by eating more meat and fewer plants I'm doing everything I can to help the planet.

Country Squier by 7ender...
Ah yes, the Squier made in the country of Japan was a much better product than the Squier made in the country of China.

P.E.T.A = People Eating Tasty Animals
You can say that again!

I'll probably go the PT route. At the very least I'll have work with my pro golf trainer once I'm able to swing again. I'm sure my golf swing will be a total mess as it relates to planting my feet and shifting my weight from foot to foot through the rotation. I bet it costs me at least 6 strokes the first month I can play.

They sure ain't needed for lettuce or tofu.

And why do they taste SO GOOD on the grill!!?? But then again EVERYTHING tastes better the grill!! Even Veggies...
Try grilled peaches! My favorite grilled non protein. Cut in half, stone removed, placed on the grill cut side up after the meat comes off and the grill is turned off. Allowed to slow cook from the residual heat. Then placed cut side up on a bed of French vanilla ice cream with a splash of amaretto and a drizzle of chocolate.

I'm in that club. I might even be the poster boy for it.

That's right boys & girls, the term " Hunters - Gatherers" applies to us although In our case it's been revised to include "Thunderbirds"
Yes, always on the hunt for nice THUNDERBIRDS and gathering as many as we can afford or have the space for.

I have spent my time experimenting on different types (brand & construction) of strings figuring out what strings work on each bass (each bass seems to demand it's own particular strings). I haven't spent time experimenting with gauges but my teacher has encouraged me to start that experiment.
