Thunderbird Club

Why sure, put out the feelers! The d-bird is a monster but, the short scale seems like a cool bird as well. I tried having a better version built but, luthiers tend to be a finicky bunch.
It's still there on Craigslist for $900. It's a black one. I think the price is fantastic, even though we would have to figure out shipping. He wants cash in person, but there's plenty of 'Bird type people out here who can fill in the gaps. Let me know and we can figure out details.

Been there done that. Best restaurant steak I've ever had was in the Tampa Florida area at a steak house called Burns. Bizarre decor but fantastic steaks and phenomenal wine selection. I don't recall if they had live entertainment but it would be a cool place to perform, especially for dinner comps.
Bern's Steak House
As long as we have wandered off into eating dead things, the best steak I can remember was in some hole in the wall in Montana. It was on the drive west when I moved from NYC to Seattle. The trip included a flight to Columbus, Ohio, where my car was stored and then a lot of miles. I had mostly blown up the motor and poured a quart of oil through it every 100 or so miles on the trip, but that's another story for another time.

By the time I got to Montana, I was getting tired, but had the "get there" mentality going. I probably put in well over 750 miles, maybe close to 1000, on the specific day, and I had gotten to western Montana as it was getting good and dark. Unlike eastern Montana, there are mountains, curves, and the freeway is narrower in western Montana. So, it was time to pull in for the night.

The desk person at the cheapo hotel I stayed at recommended a place that I could walk to, so that's where I went. The place was nothing special. It had formica tables and a ceiling that was acoustic tiles painted brown. I'm sure everyone here can picture exactly the kind of place it was. The clientele was almost stereotypical Montana types in pickups and boots. I wasn't expecting much except a meal, so it sure wasn't the atmosphere that made that steak what it was. But it was perfect in all ways. I don't need 24 ounces to be happy. It was probably about half that size. That's all it needed to be. That was over 30 years ago, so the details have wandered off into the haze now. But, the fact that it was the best steak I have ever had stuck around.

That place might be gone now. Who knows if the steak was as good as I thought or if I was just hungry. It doesn't matter. It will never be matched.

Sorry guys...I have to resign my club #. I had to trade my 'bird for an American Original 60s P Bass, which is just perfect for my bands and my playing style
There's always another Thunderbird. Or a Fenderbird - I built one that's a P in all but shape. It is not an original '60s P though. Are you going to show us pictures of your P? You know that's required around here!

Harry Carey's in the Chicago Loop! Best steak I've ever had hands down!

Back story on this, wife and I were on Anniversary stoped in for dinner unexpectedly and I order the lamb(never had it), didn't like it, server asks what I would prefer, I say Ribeye Medium Rare please, he responds " I will be back in exactly ten minutes". He was and it was the best.

My ever grown mess of spaghetti! Play bass through it all the time. Extremely enjoyable. Three different samplers, a looping delay as well as the usual VCOs, VCAs, VCFs, LFOs and other assorted things to annoy the girlfriend :)
Of all the people here, you are probably the only one who could decipher the modules that just went into the case I built for my brother. The difference is that he doesn't play bass through it. I'm pretty sure he still has a bass. A Mustang, perhaps. It's shaped a bit like a NR and it's short scale. I'm pretty sure he has a guitar, too, but neither plugs into his synth modules.

By the way, it's great to see you wandering back through.

I have had many great steaks - if you have the cash and are in Montreal, I highly recommend La Queue de Cheval.
But what really counts is the memorable shared meals. The memorable steaks I have had have not been because of the quality of the meat (although it may have contributed), but because of the quality of the company. A couple of the most memorable. Arthur's in Hoboken - a great drunken get together with my University cronies about 2 years out of business school. And JB's Steak Cellar in Cumberland Maryland - a celebration of having saved a company.

Thanks! Don’t always play bass through eurorack, but do pretty often

Wiarrhea!
Can bass strings go in the recycling bin ?
No, unfortunately. I do keep my old ones and have a bag of them at work to bring to a store here that's part of D'Addario's string recycling program.
If you quit smoking you could fund another Bird!
With the price of cigarettes these days that's totally true!

I feel so much better for giving it up. Now if i can get the same willpower to quit smoking..............

I think we had that conversation a few pages* back when @JJR58 was looking for his first Thunderbird. IIRC, I did the math of how many days not smoking equalled a new `bird.

@JJR58 - I thought you had quit! Was it temporary? I probably said it before but gum and patches are good for reducing/eliminating the physical symptoms, but you are on your own for beating the psychology. Zyban (and other SSRI based smoking cessation aids) work well. Always consult a doctor and don't take medical advice from strangers on the internet including me.

I did for a very short while, started again. You know the cycle. But i sincerely appreciate your advice. :)

I know Queue de Cheval! Beautiful old restaurant and couldn’t agree more, great steak. Love that part of the city, reminds one of the serious French influence there. As you say, it’s not just about the quality of the steak, all ancillary elements count as well. That said, for a consistently perfect steak every time, it would have to be “La Cabaña” in Buenos Aires. I literally make it my first stop from the airport every time i go to BA..

Been on a bit of a guitar kick the past few weeks. Started picking up rhythm for my church gig.
All the while, my gorgeous t-bird has been hiding in its case.

I plan to pull out the 'bird for both my bass requirements this week - it's been a long drought.
