Thunderbird Club

There's a lotta American things the Brits have taken to.
Like the thunderbird club, and spam. Ab fab with brown sauce, or with a English fry up.
I did some abroad study at Edinburgh Uni in 77. Traveled a lot around the Isle. The trip there this summer was a shocker. I’m not sure the things they’ve taken to are so great. Starbucks replaced pubs and KFCs replaced chip shops. And most retailers are familiar American names. A bit sad actually.

I think that tomorrow the EB Slinkies will be taken off the bird. I am passionately indifferent about them. They had no character the day they went on and only became worse. They are sounding dead and have trouble holding tuning. Unlike the DR Pure Blues on the JC which still sound good and maintain stable tuning.

But what to put on? Well, L&M has a sale right now - two packs of RS66 (any gauge) for C$40. So, I think Rotos are going back on. They sounded good the last time they were on and lasted decently.

While I'm at it, I should put some nickel XLs on the couch bass and do a set up on it. But that probably waits until the weekend.

But what to do with the Slinkies coming off the bird? I could burn them, but high temperatures are required, and either fine grind or a raised concentration of oxygen. Might be easier to just dissolve them in nitric acid.

As a modest defence...

Retail - for Marks and Spencer the clock stopped in 1965. JC Penny or Zellers could out do M&S and look what happened to those two companies. American retail management is actually really good.

Starbucks - a pact with the devil and access to capital allow you to squeeze out every other retailer of excessively roasted coffee. But sooner or later, people figure out that the coffee is only a couple of steps better than McDonalds at a multiple of the price and something has to give; they will get to keep one of ubiquity, price, or [marginal]quality.

Chip Shops vs US fast food - see retail and consider the poor choices that consumers between 16 and 30 make. I would choose neither. What annoys me about Europe is that you can't get a decent steak - everything is paper thin and cooked through.

Pubs were a response to excessive regulation. As regulation eased, other establishments were a better means of generating returns and while quaint, I don't think that pubs were ever huge money makers; they were just a distribution network for the brewers driven by regulatory conditions and combined with an element of path dependence from when beer was safer to drink than the water.

As long as betting shops are still around I am happy (I'm not a gambler, at least not on what is sold through betting shops). It is a pleasant reminder that business will adapt to regulation (there is no exchange for futures or options in the UK, it is done through betting shops because of the favourable tax treatment of winnings vs investments).

Nope, I don't know the history of the design.

Non-reverse.

There are still tons of local shops.

Getting ready to play a few Motley Crue tribute shows. My d-bird really is a superior instrument but, I wish that I could have found one of the rare short scale thunderbirds. I tried.
There may still be one for sale out here. I will look if you are still interested in finding one.

Truth be told. I gave up red meat several months ago. Just can't do it anymore. And i don't miss it.

Porsche on the other hand. That's some serious beef.

I've decided to become a vegetarian-a lacto, ovo, beef-o, pork-o vegetarian.[stolen from comic Phil Nee]

Had many a steak in France, all cooked quite well, but none were what I'd call a decent size. If I'm gonna eat a nice Ribeye or Porterhouse or Prime Rib it better be at least 24 ounces and well over an inch thick. The only time I'd consider a smaller steak is if it's served as part of a surf and turf plate.

With as much red meat as I eat, I'm actually kind of surprised I haven't gotten burned out on it. But if I ever do there's plenty of other meats out there I like just as much.

On the Porsche front, I think they have one of the sexiest flanks out there, and your excellent photography captures it perfectly. Here's a couple shots of my '97...

I had a great steak in Paris! We ate dinner one night at a place that our former president and his wife dined at, it was memorable. When in Dallas recently I dined at the Hotel Anatole and had steak, it was better - Texas!

Yeah, I just hate taking necks off. But I may have to.

Consider your bass a pretty basic unit. The neck is attached to the body with 4 screws and all other parts are screwed onto the body. The neck screw holes will re-align and the neck pocket may have a 'shim' (easily re-placed where it was) and also has a certain amount of side-to-side play for optimal string alignment. No need to be intimidated.
