Thunderbird Club

No he said to keep it. Yes, it would be good to have a spare.
As you can see from the pic, the thin black wire in the foreground is broken where it is meant to go through the little round hole and into the back of the pickup. Does anyone have any idea of how difficult this would be to get working?

You should contact Carlo (Dadagoboi) as he has taken his original Gibson pu's apart when they cloned it for the Thunderbuckers - He posted pictures of this a while back (Thunderbird Club)

Don't forget to post pictures of the dismantled pu for us all to see! :)

Thanks for that, mate, much appreciated.
I will certainly give it a go and will post pics!
I can solder and have done maintenance work (pickup replacement, wiring harnesses- pots, caps, inputs) mainly on Fenders though.
Everyone welcome to chip in before I start unsoldering. Any tips most welcome.
The eBay listing doesn't say whether they are waxed.

Your most welcome! ;)

From the look of Carlo's pictures and others on the net, it seems like it would be best to leave the cover on and just carefully remove the baseplate after desoldering - That should reveal the contact points for the wires straight ahead.

I would venture to guess that they are not potted. Once the cover is off, shouldn't be more difficult than the other pup repairs

I could be completely wrong, but hey I have faith in you!

Quick update, gonna get some superglue later this afternoon & tonight i'll be able to finish 3 bass necks.

The Grabber bass cause i had to remove the frets & radius it down to 12" same as the thunderbird which had a flat fretboard blank. & my white pbass, cause it was a factory built neck that's no longer in production, it had a flat radius about 14-16". So this morning i took all the frets out, radius'ed it down to 9.5 (modern 7end3r). So 3 necks, one night!

Also, the thunderbird neck will be pretty much complete tonight so i'll be painting it black 2mrw during the day.

I'll get some pictures up tonight!

I saw the EBay posting of that... Interesting color, and welcome to our exclusive little Club!
Yeah, not risking a whole lot to give it a try, at least! ;) I might have to have a decal made - "Epiphony Blunderturd" perhaps. :D

I think you did quite well for just $ 70...

You could always throw a set of Chinese Thunderbuckers or Epiphone DeepSixx pickups from EBay in it, along with the remaining missing parts and have a killer Thunderbird in an exclusive color that nobody else has. :)

Nice collection!

Surprised to see the Midtown's body is that smaller than your ES-335 guitar...

Well Gibson did issue the memphis 335 bass, but that was custom shop, not necessarily the smallest price tag for a semi acoustic bass from gibson :D

But honestly, i wish Gibson or better yet epiphone, re re issue the eb-2/Rivoli bass. Always loved those basses. But they gotta be short scale like the original, for some reason, i don't associate semi hallow basses with long scale, much like eb0s/3s The Epiphone eb0 is short scale while teh eb3 is long scale. It just feels off having an sg bass thats long scale to my preference.

& with that, i'm off to glue in some frets & file the thunderbirds fret ends & paint the fretboard sides. Later!!
