Thunderbird Club

Long post warning
So, there's evil in the works.

After some time and experimentation, I'm pulling the medium neck off the bird and dropping a 34" Epi neck back on.

Here's my thought process. The strings I really want to use are the Dunlops or the DRs, been advised not to run those on a medium scale neck due to string break issues. But the medium neck furthers that lack of clarity issue that others like Scott change out the pups to the China Buckers for the more Vintage tone.

Going to return the conversion neck to the Squier P body, I run that as my C# tuning. The extra mid-chub that goes with the medium neck works excellent detuned.

Enter the project.
@Mike A was nice enough to sell me a Epi neck in Pelham blue that has a chunky width 1.7 nut, my favorite. Thusly I am going to try a blue burst on the body. If that fails I will go all out Pelham blue. I will also build a little strap extention so my short chubby arms can reach my nut...

You do realize most Epi's are made in Asia, right... ;)
Absolutly I do realize that. As is my tv, stereo, etc. however if I were to buy that bass and was unhappy with it or It arrived broken i dont know what recourse I have with that website. Buying theough say e-bay i know i can get my money back.

Perfect example is the Classic T-Bird I bought in Alpine White. It had a big ol crack just above the controle cavity so she went home and I got my money back.

I didn't...

That's what Epiphone calls Vintage Sunburst, hence my comment: "Vintage Sunburst (way different color than a Gibson)"... :)

I could also have brought up the 7 vs 9 ply (which is already listed wrong on Epi's website), and the Pro-IV having 4 knobs, and the Classic Pro-IV having 3 knobs etc...

That burst seems to change every year, too. First it was orange, then this redish and mine's abit more traditional. Black too a brighter orange.

My oh my, aren't we coming along nicely!

BTW I'm rooting for Denver today.

No football fan. Basketball and club football only, but I always watch the playoffs and I just hope for a good game. Always digged the Sonics and Seahawks, though. Was genuinely mad last year. Something that never happens when I watch american football. The only other team I like are the Lakers.

Any of you sages know what the finish is on the Epi Pro IV? I have a vision in mind for a mod... I am liking the sound I've been getting, so for the moment I'm leaving off with the Nordstrand idea I was entertaining, but I want to refinish mine and put a brass pg on it at some point. I'm wondering what a full-on refin might involve as concerns stripping of the old finish...

Likely poly.
36 grit and a power sander, dont be shy.
The Squier I made naked seemingly had 93 coats on it!
use toilet paper rolls or dowels for the inside radiuses, and a block of wood for the stepped edges.

And pictures or it didnt happen... ;)

Got one, but I'm keeping it. I like baseball bats! Skinny Thunderbird necks are OK, too, because they have a round back, unlike roadkill flat 7enders, but big ol' war clubs are the best.
Found one!
Thunderbird Club

And for reference, I like war club necks!
You would think with repetitive stress/carpet tunnel the smaller necks would work better, but have found that not to be the case.

The SG works great, as do P necks at 1.625. The Lowe neck is all of that, full C profile.

Like I said, I like curvy, round, thick behinds
