Thunderbird Club

Mine broke in slow motion like a Hollywood car crash. A high heel caught the cord, the guitar stand did a 45 degree spin and I watched from about 10 feet away. The sound was not unlike that of a 0.22 rifle. In the early days of this group I think someone said they had a 60's break in the case on it's own. I think something bad probably happened earlier and then the string tension finished to job. Yeah, bringing an unbroken 60's or 70's out gigging takes nerves of steel. Those stands that hang your guitars are probably better than the ones where they rest on the bottom.
Prolly true, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the places we play would take a dim view of me bringing a drill and putting a guitar/bass hanger on their wall.

doesn't have to be "unbroken"...

Mine only goes on gigs where people can't get to it w/o going through me.
As a side note, I got to actually hear my TBird through my Rumble 200c at the Sunday jam. The other bass man that was there asked to see it. I'd already determined he was a decent careful player. I told him he was welcome to play it(he had a Peavey-T40?). At the end of the afternoon, he said "if you want to sell it......". He fell in love with it. Not surprisingly.

In the interest of getting back to Thunderbird containing content, here's Em and me last Saturday night:

And no that is not my iPad.
Nice.

When I was in a Portuguese festa band our singer had a music stand. Most of the shots I was in had me downstage, partly obscured by her stand. I often appeared to be reading along from a giant music stand. I really got sick of that...

playing Fall River and New Beige huh? good pay...hard work...

I've never really followed Tesla, although I do like them and have seen them in concert, but pulled them up on YouTube to learn Gettin Better, and in the video anyway the bassist was playing a Thunderbird. It must be a later model, it appears to have black PUPs. Always thought the bass player was good and had good tone.
thought of this when you mentioned "Getting Better"....speaking of Canadians...Mars Cowling RULES..

I try to memorize everything on rock/pop gigs and as much as possible in jazz settings. IMO you can be much more expressive if you’re not looking at a chart.

sometimes you don't have a choice..i played with an Italian Festa/Wedding band for two years...we would play 8 (or longer) hour non stop sets....if i had to go to the bathroom I would hand the bass over to the guitar player who would cover until I got back (no joke)....there is no way to memorize that much material....we all had our very THICK sheet music binders with the songs numbered....the BL would yell out the next song by number as we were nearing the end of the current one....sweatshop setup...that said, we would make about a grand each and it was excellent reading practice..

Dude. That's good bread- but we didn't work that hard...

Don't know why I keep getting left out of notifications for this thread, I guess after a few pages go by you get dropped, lol. Takes about a day!
I was going to make a smart-ass remark about being unsubscribed for some manufactured infraction of club rules...

But I think the site software may have been "upgraded" to something a bit glitchy. I have noticed a few odd things, but the worst part is the way pictures get loaded; in a picture heavy thread, if you scroll up, the pages jumps down as it loads more pictures.

Yeah. Mine will jump a few, then I'll see a post referring to something I never saw, and I go back and it hadn't come up.o_O

I'm thinking that's less in the way of expression the more you practice it. If you've ever done a spontaneous dramatic reading- like reading the instructions for making Jell-O Pudding in a Batman voice- you get what I mean.

:D

Is that a 7ender J with a broken headstock above you?

They have all kinds of crap stuck to the walls and ceiling, like "flare" from Office Space - I helped add to the "decor" by making a "Little Bass" replica for Mike Watt to sign when he played there a few years ago. That bass was stolen when on tour with Iggy. He's coming back next week and I have tics! woo-hoo! :bassist:

I wish(not the Stevie Wonder song)
Did someone say Stevie Wonder!?

I ran into Stevie Wonder in NYC (almost literally, like he wasn't looking where he was going...) apparently we both like the same hotel there. He is a big dude. Not tall, built like a tank. I am built like a fire hydrant I and think he is a big dude!
