Thunderbird Club

There was a spy novelist in the 80s (can't recall his name off the top of my head) who had used flying a plane laden with fuel into a building in a book.

Sounds like Tom Clancy

Yeah, I was thinking that I had read that in a novel. But couldn’t remember who by. Could have been Clancy, but not sure. Read a few Len Deightons as well... don’t think it’s him. Thought of Arthur Hailey for a minute.

Frankly I'm not versed in that world, but do know Clancy was (still is?) a mega-seller of his political thriller books.

Tom Clancy? “Debt of Honor” came out in 94, annoying me since I was trying to write a novel involving such a scheme. Not that I had published anything but technical works.

i love Clancy.

In the interest of getting back to Thunderbird containing content, here's Em and me last Saturday night:

And no that is not my iPad.
Love that crazed bass face!

Finally dug my old zebrawood "guitar of the week" out of the closet. The neck was still cracked. ;) Started filling my online cart with clamps, glue, glue needles and decided to call my local luthier. "Bring it over" says he. "Thirty bucks", clean break, pick it up Monday at the latest." He said you might not even be able to tell. I said I don't care.

I would never try to sell a guitar with a break, repaired on not without disclosure. I have seen thunderbirds online that were obviously cracked and the seller calls it "a scratch". Gibson should just offer pre-cracked/repaired thunderbirds. Just get it over with, LOL. It can be their version of roadworn. :bassist:
LOL - we all need to start referring to TBirds that have broken headstocks as "Roadworn". Kind of the ultimate relic job. Sure any old FSO can have the body beat up to make it look vintage or roadworn, but only a TBird owner would dare take that art to the next level and snap the headstocks off as well. :roflmao:

It makes such a huge difference engaging with an audience - I always get more comfortable, resulting in more expressive playing individually and as a band. Engage with your audience and they will elevate you! :bassist: (note elevated feet at top of pic!)

addendum -

A recent show (that Chucky & wife attended!) where we had moments of elevation! :) This must have been a torch song though... ;) I think it was "You Don't Own Me" by Leslie Gore. Kirstin really gets inside that one!

sorry for lack of T-bird content...

Is that a 7ender J with a broken headstock above you?

1219181018-00.jpg I guess that makes me an "artiste", since the HS on the 67 snapped completely off, held on only by the strings.:bawl: Sorry, I was too shook up to take pics.

It isn't the seductive gaze, it is licking your lips while you are doing it that makes them look away.
Ah, maybe that's it. Or maybe the drool. I dunno. At least the Flamingo gives them something else to look at. Or the upright. It always attracts a lot of attention so I don't have to.

Yeah, taking pictures at a time like that would be asking a bit.
It happened a coupla years ago(not while playing). The bass was on a stand, I was in another room. I heard a weird sound so I walked in the direction of the noise. Looking all around to see what had fallen, I looked toward the TBird. My heart sunk[sank?], my stomach went up into my throat; I figured it was done. Nope. The luthier at the shop I go to put it back together and added a coupla short reinforcing rods. As he said, it might break again, but not there.

I've never really followed Tesla, although I do like them and have seen them in concert, but pulled them up on YouTube to learn Gettin Better, and in the video anyway the bassist was playing a Thunderbird. It must be a later model, it appears to have black PUPs. Always thought the bass player was good and had good tone.
Supposedly many engineers want you to play a P-they 'know' how to record it. The 2 studio sessions I did-many mango seasons ago-I played my TBird through my amp. The engineers at Criteria(Miami)never said a thing. Took levels, and away we went.

Mine broke in slow motion like a Hollywood car crash. A high heel caught the cord, the guitar stand did a 45 degree spin and I watched from about 10 feet away. The sound was not unlike that of a 0.22 rifle. In the early days of this group I think someone said they had a 60's break in the case on it's own. I think something bad probably happened earlier and then the string tension finished to job. Yeah, bringing an unbroken 60's or 70's out gigging takes nerves of steel. Those stands that hang your guitars are probably better than the ones where they rest on the bottom.

mine has a repaired crack along part of the length of the stock....never came apart from the neck though...
