The last time I was in Miami, there was an enormous iguana hanging out on a patch of grass near downtown. It would have made a pretty decent barbecue, at least from a volume standpoint.

When the temperature drops below 40ish, they fall outta the trees. They're called "iguanacicles" at that point. Doesn't kill them but go into sorta suspended animation.

One thing I really like about western Washington state is the fact that there are very few, creepy crawly poisonous stingamajigs here.

Very little poison ivy or poison oak, either. After Ohio, it's paradise that way.

I plan to learn Spanish when I retire at the end of January, so that I know what Spanish-speaking people are saying behind my back!

I have a friend in NYC who is Cuban-American. She's not especially ethnic looking, at least by New York standards. But, she's absolutely fluent in Spanish, and will occasionally surprise people who don't think she can understand what they are saying about her, right in front of her. It's New York. Nothing happens behind anybody's back, though, so there's that.

Back to Thunderbirds, however briefly. The Flamingo got out to play a holiday party last night. I think we played about a dozen Beatles songs among the 35 or so songs we played, so there's that. We didn't play Brown Eyed Girl or Mustang Sally, so there's that as well. We did have a few dancers, which is always a bonus at an event like that. The Flamingo got the requisite number of comments and sounded pretty good. The Ken Smith strings are really growing on me, now that they have a bit of time on them. They must have needed some break-in time and use.

That's what I want to be able to do. It's not my number 1 priority though, just one of a bunch. I too have a friend who is half-Cuban and is fluent in Spanish. She does the same thing as your friend.

I think that in many cases amps picking up AM radio is a result of poor soldering. A cold or dirty solder joint can act a bit like a diode and in the right place, the carrier is filtered out but the signal gets amplified.

Especially if the poor solder provides any shorting between the base and collector of a bjt transistor => instant diode. I used that trick in several designs over the years to save on unique part count.

Sounds like a great show! Lucinda did Jessie Malin’s Christmas show last week that was broadcast live on LSUG. It also included Ryan Hamilton. Good stuff.

It was great. Not sure how many of the people there knew her (I saw her open for Richard Thompson 20 years ago), but she pretty much wowed everyone. I really hope there's a recording of it, especially Pale Blue Eyes.

I speak fluent Portuguese, but in NYC it doesn't do me much good, other than the occasional Brazilians I encounter. Unfortunately I have yet to catch them saying anything embarrassing. I can get by reasonably well in Spanish.

In all my years in Seattle (since 1961) I had never seen one of these fellows in the flesh until this year, when bigger they're quite aggressive, I've seen YT video of them attacking and eating lizards and hummingbirds.

There are a few things I miss about Ohio. Those. They are fun to catch when you are a kid. Same with fireflies and all the nighttime insect and amphibian noise. If you think the country has quiet nights during the summer, you are in for a big surprise in rural Ohio.
