BTW, the gig on Saturday night went awesomely well. I shoulda used the Bird but played the show with my 88 Charvel 4B, keeping the Bird as a backup. We agreed to go in last to make the booker's life easier this time. It's kind of a long story but I won't bore you with all of it. Suffice it to say we went over really well and the booker really liked us, even calling us "awesome!". to play last we were told we'd get booked again. After our show we were being told tentative dates. I LOVE playing that club! Sometimes it really pays off to be cool to the promoter and take one for the team. I'm gonna bust out the Bird next time.

A local luthier mods these with Warmoth necks, creates "Fenderbird" basses. I'm going to play it as is for a bit, but I might end up going that route with it.

I play both ways and can definitely play faster with a pick and I can play all the Maiden and Sabbath with fingers. Pick, for me, is more controlled and a better attack

I play 90% with fingers, but if it is really fast I use a pick. Or if it is just a portion of a song that is fast I'll use one finger for that portion. It is just easier for me to use a pick or one finger for fast passages. Not sure why, but two fingers is slower for me. Seems counterintuitive.

A good portion of my gigging life is an old school reggae band, but blues and punk flavored, electric small-band rock n roll is my heart of hearts. I'm a Mountain/Crimson/Sex Pistols sort of guy. But I find the reggae is a very wholesome, healthy feeling thing to do. It's got it's own integrity, and everybody shows up at a reggae gig, from grandparents to kiddies to young hotties...

I use a Dunlop for the rear of the strap so it's removable, and a screw/washer to hold the upper button. I like the Grolsch brand too though!
