Thunderbird Club

Gibson Bass GAS never sleeps.
I sold a bass recently so had a little bit of "bass money" laying around. My birthday soon, so my lovely wife told me she wanted to throw some more against it to get something nice, so I started looking a week or so ago (not that I ever really stop).
Only really looking in Oz, as the exchange remains bad. There are usually not lots of Gibson basses available on the second hand market here and often overpriced, comparatively speaking, so I didn't hold out much hope of finding something nice.
In the space of a about a week, all outside of eBay, I found an EB13, but the guy ended up deciding to keep it. Then found a mint Gold Top Les Paul OSB that I think the guy wants a bit too much for. I emailed him to see if he was interested in trades or part cash/ part trade. He says not really because the wife wants the $$$, but to hit him up anyway and if there is anything catches his fancy he will talk to his wife about it. So I put a couple of scenarios to him.
Not expecting hear back, a couple of days later, I find a G3 70s Tribute yesterday. I grabbed the G3 and am waiting on shipping and bank account details to close the deal. Then yesterday afternoon, the Les Paul guy gets back and says he is thinking seriously about the trade options I put to him, but needs to convince his wife who wants the full $$$$. I got back to him and said I am probably out for a cash/ trade deal as, in the meantime, I had found a G3 and committed my available $$$ that way, but, assuming the G3 deal doesn't fall over, that I was happy to do a trade for a couple of Fenders. He's thinking about it. Not sure how that one will end up. I don't know where I found the time to go to work before I retired!

Anyway, does anyone have experience with the G3 70 Tribute? I read good things about them when they were around and thought I must get one, but one never crossed my path until now.

We're talking about the re-issue G3 from a couple years back? I had one that I bought and shipped to Uwe from LBO - it was with for 3-4 months, I LOVED IT!
Sounded fantastic thru my GK played fingerstyle, the neck is a bit beefier than a Bird but I still found it to my liking. I had it tuned half step down to play a lot of Smithereens - that bass just killed for tone!

Yes, that the one I am talking about.
I am mainly finger style and have a Fusion 550- this could be very good!
Like that tone- bits I have heard have been P Basses and Rics. I have heard people say the G3 Reissue is a bit Ric like. :D

My father carried a BAR and wore this patch in the Korean War....45th Infantry, the "Thunderbird Division".
Pork Chop Hill and all. If anyone uttered a malicious word about Oakies,
around him (and he was a NY city kid), he would knock them out cold.

Just finished recording 5 rough tracks. Later on i'll be able to record the drums & lead guitar parts & then re-record Bass, rhythm guitars & vocals for my album to be complete. Rough bass tracks done with Pbass copies, final tracks depend on which bass is complete first & which sounds good for which songs :p But i'm pretty sure my thunderbird (or birds if i've got both finished by may/june) will have their spotlight :p Speaking of which, i ordered the black tuning keys for my goth & it's now in it's curing phase of varnish. 5 coats on the body 4 coats on the neck/headstock. All looking good thus far & a nice matt finish at the front cause of the type of red spray paint i used.

Also to quote myself, The tuning keys i ordered will arrive between march 11th-28th 2016 so my thunderbird won't be playable til then, but everything else will be ready next wednesday to be buffed & polished, & assembled. IT's going to be good to have her back together & once the keys arrive, it's a good final set up for this bird! By then, i'll have most of my Tiger bird built along with my bud's RD Standard build

I simply cannot keep up with you, kid!

Hey guys. Just seeing if anyone has or knows of someone who has just one TBPlus pickup they have lying around somewhere collecting dust. My Gibson TBird had the neck pup go bad so I took the one out of my Epi Classic IV to get it up and running again. Both TBirds are 2013. I acquired a pair of Deep Sixx pups to put in the Epi but I can't bring myself to route the pick up holes bigger so they fit. I am always a day late and a dollar short on getting the ones that come up in the classifieds but those are mostly pairs. I would even put the Deep Sixx pair towards it.
Thinking about selling my TB+s in chrome covers for something different. It's a pair though.

Our irrepressible youth! Carry on, Andii!

I might buy them from you when you sell them, if you sell them. My '91 chrome out project has stalled at pickups because I have been playing the 2015 a whole lot lately. Spending money on pickups with chrome covers might get me off the dime!
