I think it only means something if you plan to sell it.Yeah. I’m happy for Plaid. Wonder if he’s still grinning.

No, and to be perfectly blunt, I'm disinclined to go anywhere near anything with 'colonial' in the name.
The DSL straps work well for me and they're made in Sydney. Search over.
I thought I was reading my reply to this post for a second...exact same points I made. (Though I forgot to mention that I have the CP as my backup and a Gibson as my #1)Can’t go wrong with an Epi Classic Pro. It is a neck through like the Gibson and has Gibson USA pickups.
+1 flats sound great o a Thunderbirds. (TI jazz here)Currently:
'64- TI Infeld's (This will likely never change)
'64 Embassy- (same PUs as Thunderbird) TI Jazz Rounds (this will not change)
'76- TI Flats or Fender Flats
VP- Fender Flats
VP- GHS Pressurewounds
GHS Round Core Boomers sound fantastic on these as well as a few other lesser known strings. (GHS Progressives, Dean Markley Blue Steels and String Joy round core nickles all sound really good.) Just depends on what you are shooting for.
Oh, Roto Flats sound great as well.
Yes, flats sound great on Thunderbirds!
+1We tend to avoid searching around here because questions let us talk about Thunderbirds and everything else. I have used any number of 3" straps with good results. So long as the upper strap button is at the neck heel, wearing the bass a bit low and tilting the neck up more than you would with a Precision generally wipes out any dive a Thunderbird has. If any. Some dive, but most non bolt on Epiphones and nearly all Gibsons balance reasonably well. There are those that do not, and just about any wide strap is a big help.
this setup stole the show..

Has anybody here any idea how and why Gibson came up with the 3 point bridge design?
Could be totally off the mark here but I think the two point bridge they used, used to teeter forward, plus it had to look different to Fender and Rickenbacker. I believe the two point non Gibson replacement bridges have a piece that fits on/in/over the forward point. ????????????
Sorry. Was a bit behind. Spent some quality time in the shed.I thought I was reading my reply to this post for a second...exact same points I made. (Though I forgot to mention that I have the CP as my backup and a Gibson as my #1)
Personally, I'd take the neck off the bass and keep it in the case. Then I'd buy a Fender liscensed neck for a couple hundred bucks and use that on the bass instead. Down the road if you ever sell the bass the buyer can decide if they want to pay to have the original neck fixed.
Ha! Great minds think alike! I put an Allparts licensed neck on it and put some aftermarket decals on yesterday afternoon.
