Thunderbird Club

This lack of low-end thunder was what I noticed with mine. My '64 is simply bigger sounding and has that Leon full big and low thing going on. So does the '64 Embassy. This is why I really like the Round Core Boomers on one of the VPs (or another set of String Joy round cores are nice as well). They bring some lows back without messing with my Amp. Even my '76 has more low-end as I recall. I haven't played it out in some time so I can't say for sure. I even thought about lowering the PUs on one of the VPs to see if it gets closer to the '64.
Interesting to know.

Thursday...

The 12/13 NR has a large volute at the neck/headstock joint that the reverse models don’t seem to have. It makes the first position feel much bigger...
Correct. The NR has a prominent one. My ‘15 doesn’t have one. Doesn’t make a difference to me as far as playability goes. At least for me. Others may find the neck too thick.

Noticed yesterday when looking at this one at my friend’s shop..

curiously, 60’s NRs don’t have this volute either, could be wrong but it may be exclusive to 12/13 NRs..

no, you must have mistaken me for our Canadian friend. :D

mind you, I am slowly becoming a stereotypical Aussie. I bought my first Akruba last week.
I already have RM Williams boots and jeans. Next I’ll have Slim Dusty in my playlist..... oops

Me too! Now I want one...

Not a drop of Aussie blood in me, never even been down under, but I've had my Akubra for a couple of years now. It's been horseback riding, calf branding, beach sunning, Death Valley hiking, Palm Springs golfing, Laguna Seca spectating and in the dust, sun, wind and rain. Still looks great and should last many more years...

So my sad car story is this:
The old lady that lived across the street from us had a 1959 Cadillac El Dorado convertible and a 1968 Chevy Camaro in her garage, both in immaculate condition. She was well into her 80s at the time, I was around 16-17 and me and my dad would go over once a month and pull the two out of her garage, fire them up, let them run for a bit and then put them away for her. Her grandson turned 16 one year and she gave him the Camaro, which he promptly crashed into a phone pole that very day. Hit it hard enough they scrapped the whole car, it was just junk. As a 17 year old kid I really can't remember ever being that angry in my life.
Eventually we moved away and I have no clue what became of the Caddy.

So what's "great", and where?

For starters, Reverb is having a 15% off sale on "select" items. There was a mint CP for~450 and another player for $350 or so. Those were the white ones that caught my eye.

old Italian family up the road when I was growing up, the parents and an unmarried daughter.
The Dad had an immaculate EH Holden (1964), black over black. After the parents passed the daughter still had the EH and drive it as her only car. I used to glance longingly (and longly ) at that car. Then one day I came past and there was a Mitsubishi Magna turning into her driveway! Horror of horrors the EH had been traded. It was probably close to 20yo by then. I had often thought of asking her for first option if she was ever to sell it... but never did.
It probably got turned into a street machine being a very popular model for that. It looked something like this model (1:1 model looks better)

I turned 62 last Friday. I’m moving a bit slower than I did ten years ago. I’ve got bad knees (one of which, for no apparent reason, will go out and be excruciatingly painful for about three days to where I can’t put any weight on it, then it goes away) and developing cataracts. Growing old is the sh**s. But I don’t complain. At least not too much. I know most of the orthos in town and they’re never going to touch me.

it is worth doing the cataracts. I see better after than I ever did beforehand.

love it George!

Here is mine. Excuse the melon. :D
I just gently placed the hat on and took a quick selfie when it arrived.
I’m lousy at selfies.
