Got my first tbird today! Excited to review this

It looks like you have already had at least part of the Thunderbird experience. I see a bass that has had the headstock popped off. Now you just need the muddy sound and neck-dive to get the trifecta.

For rosewood and analogs use lemon oil. Do NOT use lemon oil in a salad -- it's neither edible nor really made from lemons.

Going to order some of this Gorgomyte. Anyone tryed it. Looks expensive poopie. That and eather Rotoswing 66 or GHS Boomer Flea’s. Are they both good strings. Anyone using them right now? What do suggest?

Was considering half rounds. Been learning about sliding notes on the bass and with rounds its killing my fingers lol. Virgin fingers lol

OK, previous wise@$$ answer aside, I've been using D'Addario "Hydrate"tm fingerboard conditioner. Works great, makes it look new-and shiny.(Whee!)
Definitely not virgin fingers, I use flats on all my basses. Partly to avoid 'squeak', but I prefer the tone and feel.

I recommend Marmite.

RS66s go on very bright then rapidly lose their lustre. Ken Smith Bass Burners have the same vibe and last and last and last.

Hi all. How to you guys with T-Birds Pro clean your frets/fretboard. Never done it before. What do you guys use for best results. Thanks

This is how I was taught by an old school luthier (and have been doing it for 35 years)

Loosen strings so they are off the fingerboard.

Take a piece of 0000 steel wool (the finest) and scrub across so you polish each fret and get the gunk off the wood.
The rosewood will probably get lighter looking as you take off the oxidation.

Apply a lemon oil and spread it around with a rag so it just covers the whole fingerboard like this:

Let it soak in for 5 minutes or so. Then polish with a soft rag. Let it sit for 5 minutes and polish again just to get any excess off.

German helmets with the spike out of the top, or a crown of barbed wire? Ok, give me six months of elliptical work and I'll think about it. Don't get your, uh, hopes up.

I dunno, you have seen our very own PillO, who is well named, in his full dress watermelons. If you can approach that level of, uh, quality, all's well. No elliptical or other work necessary.

Bass Burners don't sound great at first, but settle in quickly. Once they settle in, they are capable of all kinds of sounds.

I never payed much attention to Garnet amps until I was in a band with a dude from Winnipeg that collected them.
They sound great! That Zog is a holy grail for Garnet enthusiasts.

I see Garnets occasionally, but they aren’t as ubiquitous as Traynors.

I’m not surprised @GonePlaid has never seen one in Florida.

I don’t recall ever seeing one in Cali and only knew of their existence from magazines. It was Fenders, ACCs and Sunns mostly. Some Kustoms/Kasino, MMs, Marshalls and an occasional Vox. We had a Traynor dealer in Santa Barbara, so there were some of those around in the 70’s (but sadly don’t get them here anymore).

I like Music Nomad’s Frine polish for frets and their F1 fretboard oil on Rosewood boards.

Songs difficult to learn on my Thunderbird/Embassies (since that's all I play these days):

I agree, Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo, even the Johnny Winters version, lots of tasty bass runs and 3 octave shifts

Simple Man, I had to chart it out, over 18 variations of the basic pattern (the bass part was played by Ed King, so approached with a lead guitarist mentality, an approach I have no experience with since I've played bass since day 1 in 1968). I Ain't The One a little problematic, but more technical than because of numerous changes.

Believe it or not, Born On The Bayou by Creedence, lots of small variations throughout the 5 minutes.

Being in a 3 piece band, the bassline has to be solid and indisputable or doubt creeps in to the band mindset, never a good look. This is complicated by breaking in a new drummer.

One thing I always thought was really interesting about CCR was that their verses are more catchy and interesting than their choruses. It's usually the opposite.

That’s Fogerty’s genius. Compelling, memorable verses with tasty hooks. I think all writers try, but the best can do it successfully.

I almost never do, because my fingers hardly touch it thanks to string thickness. But when I do, I go with what I used for years with guitar - clarinet bore oil with a paper towel or soft rag. Save the 0000 steel wool for frets only as needed, or really nasty necks (like if you buy used and it's super goopy), and go gently even then.
I forget what I used before the bore oil. I savvy guy in Atlanta (Bobby, owner of the defunct Clark Music) turned me on to that. A little bit goes a long way.
NOTE: I have never owned a maple-necked guitar or bass.
