Thunderbird Club

For any wood other than maple, use pure lemon oil with paper towels. For maple boards ( finished or unfinished ) I just buff with guitar polish. I'm sure others will have other methods, but my method is as good as any and better than most ( somewhat quoting a line from the movie "Shane" ). Never put water on bare wood or else you'll raise the grain ( bad ).
Pfffft. Don't clean fretboards. Just sell the offending instrument and buy a new one.

Hi all. How to you guys with T-Birds Pro clean your frets/fretboard. Never done it before. What do you guys use for best results. Thanks

Mmmmmm.......Crud. I think this is mostly bits of my fingers and sweat -Yummy!

When Derringer’s version came out, I was a sophomore. We tried, because it was huge in our area. But it was too hard for us. We kept Sloopy on the setlist instead.

Songs difficult to learn on my Thunderbird/Embassies (since that's all I play these days):

I agree, Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo, even the Johnny Winters version, lots of tasty bass runs and 3 octave shifts

Simple Man, I had to chart it out, over 18 variations of the basic pattern (the bass part was played by Ed King, so approached with a lead guitarist mentality, an approach I have no experience with since I've played bass since day 1 in 1968). I Ain't The One a little problematic, but more technical than because of numerous changes.

Believe it or not, Born On The Bayou by Creedence, lots of small variations throughout the 5 minutes.

Being in a 3 piece band, the bassline has to be solid and indisputable or doubt creeps in to the band mindset, never a good look. This is complicated by breaking in a new drummer.

Sorry for the self indulgence.... not easy to relearn 40+ songs these days

I almost never do, because my fingers hardly touch it thanks to string thickness. But when I do, I go with what I used for years with guitar - clarinet bore oil with a paper towel or soft rag. Save the 0000 steel wool for frets only as needed, or really nasty necks (like if you buy used and it's super goopy), and go gently even then.
I forget what I used before the bore oil. I savvy guy in Atlanta (Bobby, owner of the defunct Clark Music) turned me on to that. A little bit goes a long way.
NOTE: I have never owned a maple-necked guitar or bass.
EDIT: I am pretty sure as a clueless teenager, I started off with Lemon Pledge[tm].

While it isn't a full-blooded Thunderbird it's a close kin, and at only $299 and free shipping it was irresistible.

Welcome to the Embassy club, a worthy bass indeed. Play it long and often, a string change will yield even better tone. I've gone from stock to DR Lowrider nickles, awaiting DR Sunbeams. Make sure to loosen the strings before you adjust the bridge!

Hmmm. Unless the headstock explodes or wrestles you to the floor, I don’t know if this qualifies. But post video of you playing it while wearing a grass skirt and watermelon bra, and I think we can make an exception.

Cool!

And you got it in the third best colour.

I'll take black for $299! It'll help me find it amongst the others.

The photos at the ZZounds website show a little white spot near the neck joint (probably just glare). My sample does not have this white spot.

My black one has the dark fingerboard, looks cool, but I think it's dyed, my fretting fingertips get black when I play it (somewhat lessening over time), you shouldn't have that problem with your board.

I've noticed those showing up on a lotta pics. Another angle and it's gone.
