Thunderbird Club

Even now, a couple of times, while working on my amp circuit again (now 30+ years later, and now a bass circuit), and while trying to get the cleanest low E from a 2x6L6 amp, I have said to myself "Wow, that is the best low E yet!", before remembering to correct for this effect.

[P.S. Did get a clean 40Hz by wiring the output tubes as triodes (usually a hi-fi idea), but it only makes 20 watts.]
interesting.....mine doesn’t do that...must be the 34s...;)

Doesn't do what?
Mine is also running EL-34s (for lower plate resistance wired as triodes, for better damping). Maybe instead of saying "clean" I should have said "well damped".

Nice photo.
doesn't run in triode mode...feedback determines the damping factor....what do you do with the suppressor grids on the 34s when triode wired? PM?

So, when did Epiphone start making Thunderbirds? Poking around the net, I found one reverse claiming to be from 1993, several NRs claiming to be from 94-97, and steady references to reverses from 1998 on. But these were generally for sale, and oft didn't show serial numbers. Does anyone have a definitive reference? Does Geddy mention it?
The NR 5er I had was a 94 per serial #.

When Rick Derringer and company left the studio after laying down that guitar solo section on Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo I think Rick told Edgar "instead of saying "yeah, did somebody say keep on rockin" I should have said "there ya go crappy cover bands, take that". This guy breaks it down very nicely.

When the bass and lead sync up it's just so damn good.

This guy has serious bass fingers, too.

CF Turner.
The rock on which BTO was built on, IMO. Solid playing, voice made for rock music. Held the BTO flame for a long time. From what I read, he was in the band even before he knew it, Randy Bachman wanted him so bad.

He and Dusty looked somewhat similar at one point in their careers.
4 string-brothers from different mothers.

And what's that behind him...

I saw Randy Bachman perform not long ago. He told a story of being contacted by SRV's management shortly before the accident and being asked if SRV could record Takin Care of Business on the next album and could he write an additional verse for SRV to record. He then plays the song as he thinks SRV would have done it - as a shuffle a bit slower than the original.
