Thunderbird Club

Well at the suggestion/challenge of @BklynKen.

Look who has come to visit...

A Sqwar P in old man burst with a luncheon meat scratch plate.

It is rented for a month. I'm going to give it the weekend to see if I can figure out how to play lefty. If I can, it stays for a month or so while I get some active range of motion in my L shoulder. If I can't get it working by Monday, maybe it is a failed experiment.

So far: Wow is that ever awkward. How do you lefties manage to play anything!?

I think the kids these days would call it "boomer-burst"

Good!!!!

We were informed yesterday that the company was "strongly recommending" that we work from home for about 3 weeks or until this situation has settled down. Not a problem for me. I will get some extra sleep and be able to mess around on a bass a little each day during work.:bassist:

Received an email from our CEO today announcing that the "strongly recommended" work from home was now a MANDATORY WFH for everyone that was cleared and geared to do so. Minimum of 3 weeks, but that is subject to change. Could be more, could be less.

The one i have sounds like no other humbucker i've heard. Very clear and articulate, but full and rich.
I never run it full on. I just blend it to taste with the P pup.
But if i do run it full on, it sounds very much like a 2 band eq Stingray.
It's got endless tonal qualities and is a perfect combo with the pure vintage '63 P pup in there.
Thanks for the rundown, Jeff, sounds like my next p'up...

Good on you for attempting this anyway - I've never had a lefty in my hands. I have the (scribbly) ability to write left-handed but it comes out reversed... may want to test myself as you are playing a lefty to see if I can play bass-lines in reverse! :bassist: (there's no lefty emoji...)

I’m also meeting tomorrow (Sunday) with the local Vinnies conference President to discuss the situation of my group (I’m Pres of that, reporting to this conference.
I’m thinking we may/will/should cease visits until we all know more. I would hate for us to visit a nursing home to play and find out later that a resident gets sick (or worse) from us. It would be unintentional but that would be cold comfort to those affected and their loved ones.

we may be in ‘practice mode’ for sometime.

Hah, I actually love Antigua basses.

Depends on the specific hue of the finish - like all guitar colours, each comes in many varieties. I like this version -

and a lefty for you

My pleasure Roger. I think this one is right up your alley.
The description is sitting right in the pocket for me. So, now I must have one.

:)

Srsly, @JJR58 and @JIO , this sounds exactly like my p'up. Thanks for the rec... it's going to be a minute, but Imma lock one of those muthers down and give it a run.

That one I find too busy with details. The ones I tend to like are the P and J basses.

I hear yah - I was referring more to the 'colouration' (hue) - as sometimes on a '70s finish it gets more amber, and when Fender did their RI recently it was more grey/green. If I were considering that finish on one of my basses (I have actually) I would be very selective of the version I incorporated. I do like the example you chose. There are others I do not like at all.

Even T-birds come in unusual burst finishes -
