Thunderbird Club

I have been surprised by the ongoing strength of the economy for the last couple years, but the run may be over now. It was going to take some kind of shock to knock it over, but it seems like this virus may be that shock. If so, I may be thinking about a vintage 'Bird. Provided there's any money to use to buy it. Probably not. That's how recessions work.
Yeah, kicking myself for not selling enough stock to pay off the house a month ago. But I was still trying to figure out tax stuff. It's my nemesis.

From what I've seen, croudeder, with less amenities and crappier attitudes.

Attitudes vary widely. Some airlines stink, some are crapshoots, and a handful are generally good. We really like Southwest and Alaska Air. Internationally, I like BA and Lufthsansa. These generally have a bit more room available, too. The bigger US airlines that used to rule the routes either are no more, or fit into the first two categories.

I haven't tried to take a THUNDERBIRD on a plane yet. I wish mine would just carry me!

I'll play it some and focus on it and get back with you. I never really though much about it since I installed it 34 yrs ago - it just did what I wanted then which was to give my II more variety and as all bridge pu's, some clarity.
Lol, dayum- that's already a good story, bro! Thanks, I'll def be hanging around for the buzz!

I just did a quick run-through and here's what I can tell you; first off, I totally agree with those who prefer the neck pu only. It sounds amazing - big, dark, beefy and clear. This is what a T-bird is known for - no other bass sounds like this. Then, I rolled it off and full on bridge pu (the Hawkbucker) - a similar sort of purity of tone. Not as deep/bassy but still dark, a bit less beefy and more defined in the clarity dept. Very even in output and tone - just different in relation to its location. Together (both full volume) the tone was less defined, thicker and less focused. Frankly I never use this setting - one or the other is backed off a bit so the full volume pu is dominant with 'thickening' or 'sharpening' from the other one. If I want big fat bass - the neck dominates, if I need sharper focus (for chords or fast staccato runs) - the bridge pu is on full, and the tone control is up there. Likewise I usually don't use one or the other (only) - it sounds good at home (like it did just now) but I always use both pu's live and dial them to the room. At volume, the neck pu alone gets boomy which is a reason why I added the bridge pu in the first place. At that point ('70s/'80s) I had a 2X15 Accoustic cab/SS head which was pretty bassy. Also - as you all recall, the '80s started to get 'bass-centric'/'bass-up-front' and that meant more treble. With the additional bridge pu and a generally dark sounding bass - you have the best of both worlds. Another thing that sets T-birds apart; articulate but still a bass.

As Jeff is a recent user of this pu, he'll be able to give a fresher opinion/assessment. Hope this helps.
All that is a great reason for a bridge p'up. That was pretty concise, got a pretty good mental/sonic snapshot there. Thanks for going to the trouble, it was very much appreciated.

My Dept is going to run a few ‘work from home practice runs’ next week or so. I’m pretty set and able (and keen) to work from home. Some others have different roles and equipment and need the trial.
S-I-L works at a big 4 audit mob, home today as his Dept test their readiness.

yes, starting to feel like another GFC coming but with a cloud over the cause

GOOD.
My local Vinnies (and other charities I’m sure) are starting to struggle finding the basic items to include in the packs they deliver to families in need.
You don’t want all that toilet paper (etc) ???

Donate it to the charity of your choice. Someone will want/need it.

spells something like this

Yeah, I knew it was French... :D lol, thanks man!

I think I mentioned earlier that I was already working from home Tue-Fri next week to take an online course. Now we are all WFH Monday as a test of the VPN infrastructure (which has changed since the last big weather event that kept everyone home a few years ago), to make sure everyone has the proper software on their laptops, and just see how things go. So (a) I don't have to drive downtown all week and (b) I think I guessed right that we'll all be invited to WFH for a couple of weeks soon. Obviously the lab rats can't all do that, but if 97% of the workforce isn't there, it still greatly reduces your exposure.

I remember the 80s ushering in a whole new palette of sounds, and ways to make them! Especially bass, from Lemmy to Mark King...

It is rented for a month. I'm going to give it the weekend to see if I can figure out how to play lefty. If I can, it stays for a month or so while I get some active range of motion in my L shoulder. If I can't get it working by Monday, maybe it is a failed experiment.
Either way, very admirable attempt. You're reversing years of muscle memory.

MOJO is worth reading ... and BASSPLAYER mag is now owned/run by a similar Brit organization, and is like a condensed bass-centric version of MOJO.

MOJO is one of the few good music mags anymore.

I’m considering taking my dual monitor setup home from the office tomorrow.

Brought all of that home and set it up today. We have been able to work at home a couple days a month for a while now, but this extended period will be a good test. Hopefully everyone does their part and it can happen more often after the scare has run its course.

Considering Italy - it's a bit more than "a scare" - it's going to be a whole other thing when people in the US finally get tested...

one of the main reasons I don't gig my 68 is because it's a II....I really need that bridge pup and it's always dimed...tone set to about 5 and neck pickup set to between 7 and 10...that pot adjustment range (from 7 to 10) acts as the bass control of the entire rig...

Joy Division, Cocteau Twins, Breathless, Duran Duran, Franky Goes To Hollywood, Talk Talk, Eurythmics in the "New Wave" category all were "bass-up-front" proponents.

I agree and do the same. Some players like no controls on the bass and do all their settings at the amp and pedals. I set my amp/pedals and do all tone-dialing on the bass. That's why a 2 pu bass (and a good one pu bass also) and a tone pot/control is so important to me, and why the bass itself needs to deliver because I'm treating the amp as a default, abet a very good one! :)

That was one of the things that caught my ear. I'd been listening to Mountain, Johnny Winter, Zeppelin... and then all these new sounds came along, with the bass brought forward- with all kinds of ways to do it and sounds to do it with. It was definitely a new era, and it left a mark.
