Thunderbird Club

I had a look at a banjolele. Looks like a banjo, tuned like a ukulele.

Amusing... but too much $$$ for a novelty. Around 3x the price of my Tenor Uke. If I wanted to spend that much I’d get a bass Uke, or the Ibanez Parlour Bass Guitar.

Goldtone(no affiliation)lists uke-tuned banjos. Didn't notice the prices.

No gatherings allowed in our county or the county that has most of Austin smeared across it, as of midnight tonight. For a week or so in our county, no gatherings over 10 people. Statewide it was 50, but may be down to 10 now, can't recall. For now, online gigs are where it's at.
I was supposed to be in Austin middle of next month. That won't be happening.

Thunderbird and friends.

Certainly shortens the reach a bit to tune.
Yes, by a couple of inches on the G string.

IME, J’s are an acquired taste. They’re not for me.
I cut my bass teeth on a 5 string Jazz. It was my only bass for years. Then I tried a precision and never went back, moved on to a Stingray and fell in love with Humbuckers. Bought numerous Humbucker equipped basses over the years, then stumbled upon Gibson. Eight of my last nine bass purchases were all Gibson/Epiphone products, only one Fender - and it has Humbuckers.

You mention 7ender, I recently discovered their PB 555! Might be the only fender I express any live of interest in. Have to get one in my hands before I can admit any evil of gas

Was always intrigued by the slanted P pickups. Never had a chance to play one. ESP did something similar back then (maybe even did it first) but have never seen one of those in the wild either.

They seem quite rare. There is one on eBay now but Im not going to pull the trigger for a coupe reasons, not working at the moment, hunkered down for this dang covid 19, really don't have the room in my closet for more basses. I need to down size a couple basses and probably a cab or two.

Well, in case I wasn't already getting a little stir crazy from working from home, and now the governor's order for most folks to stay home...I get up this morning to find this...
I am working to keep my sense of humor about all of it. Stay well everyone.

I hope all are doing as well as can be expected. Eight months ago I took a maintenance job in a nursing home hoping to make it to 62. It's a good job with above average pay and excellent benefits. A employee tested early for the virus and due to my age and underlying health issues my Dr. told me not to report to work. I have not worked there a year yet so FLMA doesn't seem a to be a option. I am awaiting thier decision but I presume that I am soon to be unemployed.
Stay safe, keep busy. I started stripping the wallpaper in the kitchen.

Don't recall seeing a blocked'n bound Bird before. She's gorgeous.
Thx for the FB tip, I just registered on it.

It's good we all have a hang here. A bit of clarification for me today, our business is deemed essential to the economy (i.e. the building industry) so we're continuing to work - The Light Rail was kinda giving me the HeeBee Jeebs yesterday so I drove in this AM not much traffic.

Great pic ! I loved the Runaways back then, I was one of the few in my area that knew about them.
I'm close to the residential building industry, although from the mortgage financing side of it. My clients are builders and most of them are closing down for the next 2 weeks, except for the houses that need delivering to buyers who otherwise won't have a roof over their heads.

Do any of you use ReverbNation ?
I do, for an acoustic guitar thing I have with a ladyfriend singer. use for very basic stuff: pics and songs, mostly covers, which we share on FB.

I cannot like this. Stay safe and stay sane. I will be working until I am 70 or so, most likely, so it is less of an issue for me than for others. But, this virus is going to have all kinds of other issues.

At first, I was semi-jokingly thinking that the coming economic fallout would make it possible for me to pick up a truly vintage Thunderbird. But now, that would be a sigh of somebody selling due to distress. That would not be ok.

How about finding someone doing this and buying from them with the guarantee that they can buy it back when they're ready?

Ugh. Praying for you, man. Let us know if you need anything. Seriously.

The reports are that the truckers are getting supplies to the stores. People are stocking the shelves all night and letting old people shop first. Carnival Cruise line told Trump “We can match those big Navy Hospital ships with some fully staffed cruise ships” GM said hold our cars and watch this; we can make those ventilators where we were making cars starting next week. Women and children are making homemade masks and handing out snacks to truckers. Restaurants and schools said, We’ve got kitchens and staff; we can feed kids.” Churches are holding on-line services and taking care of their members and community. NBA basketball players said, “Hold our basketballs while we write checks to pay the arena staff.” Construction companies said, “Here are some masks for the medical staff and doctors”. Breweries are making sanitizer out of the left-over ingredients. We thought we couldn’t live without Baseball, NASCAR, NBA or going to the beach, restaurants or a bar. Instead, we’re trying to keep those businesses open by ordering take-out.

You’ve got two Democrat Governors getting told “We will make it happen” by a Republican President who has fought with them for three and half years. While the media keeps repeating itself, “We are a nation divided.”

What communist China didn't count on was America saying "Hey, hold my beer and watch this."

I think a Japanese Admiral in the middle of the Pacific said it best in 1941, "I think we have awakened a sleeping giant."

Give us a few more weeks (maybe months) and we will be doing much better! And stop listening to the hysterical media!!

We have wonderful country and an amazing God.

We WILL be ok .

But, staying at home, no need to go out in it.

Also, that ain't snow...

This is snow

But, consider that if you don't buy, they will be deprived the money that they desperately need for something else; something that he/she has prioritized ahead of a Thunderbird. There are situations in which there are no good outcomes.*

That Thunderbird is a one -off Custom Shop piece originally made by Phil Jones for What's his name in the Scorpions, he evidently didn't like and it languished for some time before being completed.
What's sad is what Gibson is actually capable of that they just don't even try, I already have a lot of 'Birds, but were they to offer that bass I'd be on it in a heartbeat!
Somehow my job is deemed "essential" just now so on I go, I have given up the public transit for the duration however, it's just too much unneeded risk twice a day - driving the Subaru instead, I have paid, gated private parking and much less traffic than normal.........
