As I get older my input filter loses bandwidth, while my output filter seems to malfunction occasionally.

You're in your 20s or 30s? Seems to be a common problem with that age as well. Matched with confidence greatly exceeding their experience.

That's just great - no sooner do I reprogram all my incorrect tube vs SS Talkbass GP Amp learnings to the correct "watts is watts is watts" and now I find out that there's "slow watts and fast watts".
Watts a person to do!


No multimeter, no problem. Just fill the bathtub up with water, plug the amp in to the wall socket and drop it in the tub. If it flips the circuit breaker or flashes pretty bursts of bright light then you were getting ample power to the amp and there's no problem with your outlet or your cord.

PS - anyone following this advice is automatically eligible for a Darwin Award. To posthumously collect your reward you'll need to reach into the bathtub to extract your amp while it's still plugged in.
Said another way - DONT DO THIS, IT WILL KILL YOU.

Speaking of the pic. I'll be getting one of those delivered in a few days. I won't look like that playing it...but mine will have a metal pickguard!

After playing the '64 and VPs so much lately, I'm hoping the tone on this won't disappoint.

You're definitely gonna have to experiment with strings that will compliment the TB+.

Also: raise the pickups as high as you can, keep the neck pickup at 11 and back off the bridge pickup a little, at least for a starting point.

Thanks for the insight. I currently has lightly used DM Black Beauties. The previous owner said he didn't like the flats he tried, but these really work (for whatever tone he was shooting for). I tried a lot of strings for the VPs to get a big, fat, thick tone with mid to low mid punch. (They seem to lack just a little in the lows in some ways for what I like.) I don't care for clank for my purposes. It will be interesting to play the string game to see what works best.

I understand it has a more modern tone than the originals. I'm curious to hear what that is. I hope and want it to have it's own character and have a good start on strings to try.

Nice. The DRs should be a good starting point for you. Every DR string I've tried I've found too "polite." But I like mean and dirty.
