Thunderbird Club

I've never mic'ed an amp before in order to record bass, I am used to, as most of the people (I guess), to record straight to the interface. This time I tried to make an experiment just using a compressor an a preamp straight to the amp recording through a Shure SM57.

Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro.

Neck pickup only, Tone 100%

Aguilar TLC + Sansamp PARA Driver V2

Ampeg 350 PF head + Ampeg PF 210HE cab

This is the result.

Thunderbird mic'ed test - Clyp

Sounds good! You captured an angry piano in places, too.

This might not be the correct club in which to post this. But frankly, I like you guys and gals best by far (no offense to everyone else). And since I will use my Embassy Pro (THUNDERBIRD family) with it first, all is well.

I'm so excited - and to be honest, so old - that I'll need a nap before I open this.
I'll give you a hint: the item inside weighs about 85lbs (42.5Kg).
Coffee table included for perspective:

I have two ported 4x10s to go with it, which should be plenty!
I have an SVT-VR box just like that. So it's either a VR or a Classic
BTW - whatever you do - SAVE THAT BOX! Mine came in very handy on my last move.

Is that 85lbs?
No, it's an SVT-CL. I'll have to play with it a while to get used to it.
Verified: Can rattle the house.
Figures. Just saw your answer. Happy New Amp Day:hyper:

I have mine hooked up to a Bergantino NV610 and if turned up it will completely rearrange everything in the house that isn't bolted down. It must be those Tube watts.;)
Enjoy it while you can still lift it.

:hyper: pics please..
Pics? Ok.
Already saw the outer box.
This is another, inner box.
Amp was in a plastic bag (sealed, not just folded over) and suspended in those foam blocks, one at each end. Nice, eh?

Great question, not sure there's a definitive answer we'd all agree on but I did quite a bit of research the topic a couple of years ago. See my post from 2018 above (referencing a claim that Day Tripper was the first heavy metal song - LOL). As best I can tell Iron Butterfly released the first heavy metal song with "In A Gadda Divida". Heck, they even had a metal in their name and for 1967/68 it was pretty heavy music. It beats Helter Skelter on releases by about 6 months (or over a year if you count live performances of the song prior to a recorded release as recalled by Jeff Beck).

I think Iron Butterfly was it by a hair, followed closely by Black Sabbath then Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. I just don't see the Beatles in the mix as a group but they did have Helter Skelter about 6 months after the epic Iron Butterfly release.
The Beatles could rock as heavy as anyone. HS, Birthday, Yer Blues, She’s So Heavy. Toss in I’m Down from ‘65. It was too heavy to put on an album. But in our day, it was all just rock -n-roll. Labels came later. But the shift that took place from ‘67 to ‘69 on both sides of the pond is fascinating.
