Thunderbird Club

that one is a 22nFd cap. it's also grounded on one side meaning it's acting as a low pass element. the R at different frequencies is 723Ohm at 10kHz and 180k at 40Hz....big difference. it acts as the frequency attenuating element in the tone control. Don't know what the correct value should be but if they stuffed the wrong value at the factory, say 220nFd instead of 22nF it would definitely explain what you are seeing....an easy experiment would be to disconnect one side of that cap and observe the diff..
Very interesting. Doesn't mean a thing to me, but it doesn't have to! Thanks Chuck. Something I can try by this weekend.

Cavity of one of the VPs. I thought the cap was going to show up well. Not so much and I'm not going to go back and try it again. Clearly different than that tiny cap in the modern Gibsons. Looks like the typical replacement cap is along the lines of a "Orange Drop" .047 mfd 100 volt. Not sure what is being sought with the tiny cap.

Some of them are camera shy.

But...would when the tone is open all the way, the cap would be making no difference whatever it is, even if wrong cap? Or is it the way it's grounded doing something extra? More questions out of ignorance, I know.
you are right, it shouldn't unless it's a wrong value, connected to the wrong place or even defective...one of the reasons some favor no tone control at all....it could also be the pot....it could also be out of phase pups....it could also be in your head....iow, it could be anything..

Thanks!
And it really could be my head!

Bass Outpost is THE source for Gibson fans - just sayin'

I have EY - or ChinaBuckers in my Orville, I like them, but they're not as good as what comes stock on an Epiphone Vintage Pro and they're nowhere near as good as a Lull.
Tone demo

Thanks!
I think I'll probably pass on this. I don't want a placeholder in my 'Bird. I want all the best!
For safety reasons I'd prefer to buy things stock in my country for now. Last time I checked there wasn't a Lull dealer around, unfortunately. :)

Mine. Couldn't wait till this evening. PUs seem to be wired correctly. It does look a ground from the jack is a little different that yours. If it is a ground it looks like it's going to the tone pot on mine and the volume pot on yours. That likely makes no difference.

I am in no way an expert. But I don’t like the solder job on the middle pot. It looks to me like someone has been in there. Am I imaging things?
