Yep. Or a Babicz. Are there any other members who actually had success using the stock 3 point or just went for the HipShot

Ain't been a lot to laugh about lately. Yer more than welcome.

I get along with the three point just fine. Can dial it in in much less time than a Bab or Hip. That said, the hip looks sleeker and less Rube Goldberg than the three point and offers string spacing to boot. The Bab is built like a tank and is an engineering marvel. Are there any other members who actually had success using the stock 3 point or just went for the HipShot
The original Hipshot bridge was designed perfectly for stud pulling. If you crank the anchor bolts hard enough it'll rip the inserts out of a Gibson bass. It was a perfect design for an Epiphone bass with the raised shoulder anchors but not a good design for the flush mounted Gibby studs. The good news is that Hipshot has since come out with a modification that eliminates the Gibson mount issue.Hmm maybe it's bad luck on my part. My Hipshot pulled out the studs on my SG bass the first time I tried, and even after I glued them back the Hipshot always ended up a bit sharp in intonation even when adjusted all the way back. Maybe on a 'Bird the intonation part will be better.![]()

You bunch of enablers. Put a bid in, its on its way to the west coast (probably via Mongolia). Should be here in about a week or possibly late September if the social unrest doesn't subside soon.Buy it, now!
How is it better-engineered than the Hipshot? I have no experience with Babicz. The Bab is built like a tank and is an engineering marvel.

I wouldn't say it's engineered better than the Hipshot. The hip does everything the Bab does plus it has adjustable string spacing. The Bab uses a unique engineering approach of cams for the saddles vs the common approach of the Hipshot. Both work equally well, as does the three point. I don't find any of them to be lacking in needed functionality. Some just offer more options than others for which you pay a price. How is it better-engineered than the Hipshot? Thanks. I'll look up info on their saddles. That seems to be what really differentiates them.I wouldn't say it's engineered better than the Hipshot. Another thing of note for the Babaicz bridge: Its aluminum. Official stated weight is 5.8 oz
I did not know the supertone comes standard in aluminum! The Hipshot Supertone is also aluminum. Some of their other bridges are offered in other metals as well.

I did know that some of their others, such as the A style, has an aluminum version. I believe that one is an aluminum base with brass saddles. Anyway, it seems to be barely talked about.
I guess we'll see if it plays as nice as it looks. I normally steer clear of on line Vintage purchases but this one was cheap enough to buy without the try. Hopefully it's a keeper.Congrats Dude! Beautiful Bird

I don't know, we haven't talked about it.What is barely talked about?
From 90 yards..Field Goal!
Ahem.I've never pulled a mounting stud out
I think the trick with a Hipshot is to first deliberately overtighten the screws so the studs are pulled out, glue them back, and enjoy. A bass treated this way will work like a charm with the 3-point too.![]()
