Thunderbird Club

Black Beauty Heavy gauge Taper wound. Had them on my 2015 bird prior to this. They are relatively high tension so I installed them on the BaCH NR to see how the neck would respond. Been on for a few days now and the neck is holding dead steady, no change in tuning or action. I doubt I'll keep them on but they do sound good.

All my Roto flats are fairly consistent across the set in the look, feel and sound categories. I have yet to actually wear out a set. These and Cobalts are my two favorite flats.
What is on your '15 now? I still have not strung mine with tapes. It is an experiment that has to happen.

Figured since I'm on a weird schedule on this Thunderbird Thursday, I'd post a new pic of one of my Thunderbirds before I head off to bed.

Unfortunately, I don't have any new ones, so I'm just gonna put this older one in...

They are all good. Here is an older one of one of mine. The bolt on.

Hello!
May I officially join? It's a new 2019 'Bird, bought at the end of this Thunderbird Thursday (technically it's already Friday in my part of the world). Impeccably built, plays like a natural extension of my limbs (except the highest fret or 2), doesn't neck dive whatsoever with the included leather strap (I wish my previous SG bass came with so many accessories!). Sounds like a grand piano acoustically; plugged in it gives a very Who's Next vibe even with stock pickups, only brighter (no post production rolling off treble). Even the tone knob sounds great! Easily the best bass I've ever owned (and possibly played).

The 2015 is wearing the La Bella Black Tapes that were previously on the FrankenGoth. On the Goth they had a piano like or baratone guitar type tone. On the 2015 they have a more upright bass type tone. They really transformed the 2015 into a big band and Swing machine. However, now that I have the Greco with Roto flats I think the Greco covers that music and many others better. I need to play the two basses back to back to see if I still want to keep the tapes on the 2015 or if I want to go down a different path with the bass.

What strings are on your 2015?

Very nice bird you have there!

I'm sure our Queen will be by on Friday to officially welcome you to the club, and one of our other esteemed members will be by to offer suggestions in watermelon themed apparel.

I spent a lot of time in Beijing on business. Very diverse city with lots to see and do. Spent a lot of time in and around the Embassy area near the third ring road. One of my business friends mentioned the Hard Rock Cafe there is now closed. I loved the guitar bar and Elvis stage, watched some great local bands play there ten or fifteen years ago.

You rang?

The "watermelon helmet", or more properly Tone Hat is not required Thunderbird apparel. However it is the simplest way to get great tone.

Beautiful! Welcome to the gang.

I'm working on an an recording of Now I wanna Be Your Dog and thought I'd put up a clip to see what you folks thought about the drum sound and bass tone. Its my VP with Fender flats played with a pick though my PF-50T>Transformer line out>Focusrite input. The gain is cranked (obviously).
The lead "guitar" part is my Dan Armstrong copy with an octave pedal through a Superchamp XD.

I take it back. That's not the bolt-on. That's the magic 2001 Gibson. What was I thinking! I hope it doesn't get offended and ditch the pixie dust. That's what happens when rummaging around a phone to find pictures.

I don't remember what's on there! String experiments would be a whole lot more productive if I kept track of the strings. But, I don't. So it's always all new. I know for sure I like slightly heavier Bass Burners on the Flamingo. That's settled. The pixied dust 2001 will probably end up with Cobalt Flats, more or less permanently one day soon. I like Black Beauties on the bolt-on and the Fenderbird. The bolt-on currently has uncoated rounds, and it may just keep them. The '15 has uncoated rounds for now, but I think tapes would suit it well. I found that I could get a whole lot of different sounds that I wasn't expecting when the Flamingo had tapes on it. Angry piano? Yep, a hint of that when really digging in. They are more versatile than I had expected them to be, and on the '15, they ought to be even more versatile.

Between you and Gbass, i gotta hankering to try tape rounds.
Just need to find something on the low tension side.
Tried Elixers, my alien hand took that coating right off.
