Good news. Played the '06 Gibson today and had a tad more time to tweak EQ. I used DR Pure Blues this week. I started out with Nikki M's settings, but gravitated around a little. @JIO might find it interesting that I used the BBE Sonic Stomp Maximizer. I can't explain what it did, but it allowed my to vary settings and all sounded pretty good. I eventually was able to go back close to my normal settings and that worked really well. I don't know how much of it was the DR strings or the BBE SS, but I'm almost certain it was more the pedal making the most difference by far. Big, clear with some punch. I actually enjoyed playing and what I was hearing today instead of while playing trying to think what I need to adjust to make it sound better. Pick sounded good with both PUs and just the neck sounded great with fingers. Happy camper today! Ideal string match? I don't know for sure. I'm planning to try the EB Cobalts next. And leave the BBE SS on. A modern bass might deserve a modern string. Thanks to everyone for putting up with my frustrations while working toward an acceptable tone I like, and all the great suggestions. You guys are make life better!

Fresh Cobalts. You'll be surprised.

No dissing to other strings, i just can't play em. Cause i destroy most that my hands come in contact with, fairly rapidly.

The Sonic Stomp just works. I don't think I've used it with an active bass as I have mostly passive basses, but I'll make a point of exploring that. I have a few basses (and amps) that could be considered 'modern' but usually dial them for something less modern sounding. Like a Kubicki Ex-Factor would be considered a 'modern' bass - but I don't slap/pop so I like it for its unique killer tone. :bassist:

Decided I didn’t like the washed out sunburst on the Epi T-40-Bird so I painted it Sherwood Green with ReRanch nitro, changed the bridge and a few other things at the same time.

Very nice! It reminds me of the late Craig Guber's (of Elf/Rainbow) Non Reverse.

I go the old school way, clipboard with setup sheets. Includes what bass/guitar, strings, measurements before/after, etc.

Hang the clipboard by my workbench, easy access. At the very least I have dates of when I changed strings on all of my instruments.

Mind is so shot latley I consider remembering what beer I drank yesterday a good day.

THAT I can do!

Oh. My. God. Congratulations! It looks brand new. Did you really just order a new one? I guess that’s what it’s like when your wife is in the band with you. That is fantastic.

HA! It helps that when your spouse digs gear as well for sure! I got this from the Talk Bass classifieds. Seller had been trying to sell it for about 2 years but would not ship it. Turns out a musician friend of mine who I had just recently gotten back in touch with lived about 20 minutes away. He was happy to help and for the cost of shipping and a bottle of Tullemore Dew, it was headed this way.

It is a 2009 Custom Shop head. All hand wired and the modern version of the Partridge transformers. 4 KT88's. It sounds pretty awesome so far.

It has been a long time since I owned a tube amp. With two 8 ohm cabinets, this should be set to 8 ohms on the amp correct?

Or does it need to be at 4 ohms because it is running two 8 ohm cabinets?

Yes, 4 ohms.

On second thought, it probably won't work with your cabs at all. Not to worry, I'll take it off your hands for a good price.;):D
