Thunderbird Club

I have wanted a dog for a long time. My daughter also loves dogs.

Most recently, with the state of house arrest, I have contemplated a dog many times and gotten as far as identifying dogs available for adoption that would be a good match to me.

But then I consider that during the summer about once a week I will go kayaking for several hours possibly leaving the dog at home for hours. And during the winter, I will go skiing and that takes me away from home for about 12 hours.

Office is not so bad - I work from home enough and as we don't have office space yet, I can get pet-friendly office space.

So, all things considered, there are enough times that I would be away for long enough that it just wouldn't be fair to a dog. I really wish other people would do that calculus before they get a dog.
Dogs are pack animals for the most part. If they are the only dog, you are their pack. Leaving them alone is not what healthy packs do and it messes them up.

Tapes are now on the '15. I had to loosen the truss rod. That was a surprise. Now I kinda wonder what strings were on it. High tension something or another. It needs more setup, but unplugged, it is reminding me why I like it.
I think you're gonna like them.
The Tapes allowed me to raise the neck pup a bit for even more TBird goodness. I'm finding the right settings for me are bridge Vol off, neck volume full on, tone on about 8 and coil split off (Humbucker) for hard rock and on (single coil) for jazz, swing, big band and a sophisticated piano tone.

The Tapes are considered low tension if you get the light gauge set.
I must have a light set then. I do not remember what was on it before. They sounded pretty good. That information might even be in this club somewhere back in the mists of time. But, that would require a search. We just do not do that kind of thing in a polite place like this.

I’m sorry, did you say what tapes they are?

Only slightly interesting. Maybe not even that. VPs wont fit my newer Gibson case (which has been vandalized); but the new Epi Thunderbird cases fit everything and seems to be a little more cushy. I'm happy about that because it's also lighter. The Epi case is my go to for all the Birds.

1. I find it immensely amusing that the Gibson USA case has a Made in Canada sticker. :roflmao:
2. I wonder if people change the branding on their Epiphone cases to read Gibson.

Yes. ;)

I have used all the different types of La Bella Tapes. Here's my observations...
They come in four different flavors:
Black = deep and darkest of the bunch (great for reggae)
White = bright upper midrange (kind of a stainless steel of the Tapewound world)
White copper = warmer top end and more mid focused than plain whites (the round nickel of Tapes)
White gold = broken in mellow nickel rounds sound (the Cobalt flat of Tapes)

If you are experimenting with Tapes be sure to use a light gauge. If you use normal or heavy gauge you will have to file the slots in your nut much larger. Which means you'll have to install a new nut if you ever want to go back to regular size non tape strings. Light gauge Tapewound strings are about the same size as regular non Tapes.

Anyone tried one of the varieties of white tapes on a bird?
See my post (quoted above) from a few months ago. I've used Black Tapes on the FrankenGoth and the 2015 and I've used plain White (silver look) Tapes on the Anniversary Bird. But I've used each of the Tapes on various other basses, mostly my Alembics (due to them being very sensitive to poor left hand technique) and my Jazz and P basses (to approximate a more upright sound when needed).
