The bridge pickup on the embassy may be closer, but if the neck pickup is farther, that will deepen the sound quite a bit. Maybe more than having the bridge pickup closer to the bridge would brighten it. A little bit makes a big difference when it comes to pickup placement. No new news there I know.

When I was looking Thunderbuckers, their site has a comparison, Chinabuckers had better highs and lows, the Thunderbuckers has stronger mid IMO. The jazz has no shortage of lows with the Chinabuckers, and growls all I could ask for.

Happy TT !!

Treated my Bird with flats to celebrate. It was either Chromes or Rotosounds, not much choice in stores around here and didn't want to order and wait.

Happy Thursday my Queen, thanks for posting the video, that put a big smile on my face. Reminded me of my old apartment in Parkland, when MTV was new, and actually played videos. Great fun.
Actually cloudy, and quite cool in Spokane today. Just got this in the mail so planning on spending the afternoon with Jerry and the boys. Have a great day everyone.

On this Thunderbird Thursday, I have tone questions...

I have an Epi TBird VP w/ TI jazz flats, and I play through either a Fender Rumble 200 or 500 (depends on the venue) w/ the "vintage" voicing on the amp and all knobs at noon. I generally play my VP w/ both volumes around 6 or 7 (giving me room to turn up if needed at a rehearsal or gig) and my tone wide open.

With these settings, (not counting my Rat or overdrive pedals which I occasionally use depending on the song) it sounds great...but I want it to sound GREAT!

Thoughts? (w/ my existing rig)

Slide on over to "Fender Rumble Club" and check out the wiki. Lotsa tone tips there. I run my R100 or R200c with the Gain @ 9-12, Vintage-depends on the room acoustics, OD off*[always, just me], Bass @~10, LO @1, HI @2, Treb @ ~11, Mstr @ (whatever fits the room). Sounds really good with this old thing.

I do vary my gain and volume...usually keeping them pretty equal

You might want to consider favoring one pickup over the other. I find on the VP that it starts to sound a bit thin when both pups are equal. I normally have my neck on about 8 and the bridge at 5 or less, many times completely off.

So thanks to our queen @TBird1958 [1], this is the rabbit hole I've been in all day. Completely different vibe here than their earlier concerts (esp. with son Dan Fenton on lead guitar), but loving it all. Steve Smith lays down some excellent bass tracks. Does a great job with his Ric, but I like the Queen's Bird better. (ahem)

Do you have the pickups cranked as close to the strings as you can stand?
Try all sorts of pickup variations. I usually run one pickup hotter than the other, as @GBassNorth recommended. I now normally run the neck pickup at 10, and roll off the volume pedal a bit, and pump up the volume with it. In this case the bridge pickup ranges from 0 to 5, 7 max. Occasionally the pickup volumes swap when the song calls for it.

As for the Rumble, @GonePlaid covered it.

Miles, we just do "Turning Japanese", any other songs would likely draw a blank from our typical crowd - to be fair though, we're a cover band and play dance music.
