Yeah at one time also because there are a lot of places with a clear view of the sky.yeah Australia seems to be a good location for that stuff....Gordon Cooper went there to communicate with John Glenn when he first orbited the globe in 62...must be because it's south of he equator and with 12 hour diff...
In (was it?) ‘87 Australia was supposedly the best spot in the world to watch Haley’s Comet. My Dad and a couple of his brothers headed into the Central West of NSW to have a look. It helped that they grew up out that way and still had relatives to stay with. Evidently, ‘the spot’ was the Warrumbungles Observatory near Coonabarabran. Dad lived near there for 10 years as a youngster and it was his Mum’s home area.
Anyway, Haley turned out to be a bit of a squib, not the grand show they were hoping for.
In a shoebox somewhere there is a photo of a little light in the sky that Dad took of the Sputnik.

) aware of, I bought an 06, and compared to my other Thunderbirds ('64, '76 and two VPs), it is a fairly different animal. I knew it would sound different when I bought it and I was going to be fine with that, but it sounded way more different than I ever expected. Thus the struggle with strings to try to get it to sound more like a Thunderbird that I'm used to or generally getting it to sound better. I dearly love the instrument and think I am happy with the tone now. But pickup modification at some point is not off the table entirely. One of these with VP pickups would be beyond outstanding.
