Nice! Love the shirt too. Not normally a fan of wearing others advertising, but who can pass on a tee shirt that says Full Contact Hardware. Recall I just recently wrapped up a ton of cap testing on my Goth and found the cap value to have a pretty significant impact on the tone and volume of the bass. So what cap value are you going to install?

I do like free shirts. And since cooler weather is creeping in, if I don't feel like being an advert, I can just put on a jacket

True enough.

The one I have that generally gets the most commentary/started conversations just has a large bass clef right on the front.

You'd think it'd be the pink one, with cats tearing the notes from sheet music, but strangely not...

As you well know I'm a model airplane dork. One of my greatest joys in life is building and collecting them. When heading down to the basement I kid my wife I'm going to go play with my model, maybe the German one or the French, maybe English, depends on my mood. Just checked the .1uf orange drop cap and confirmed it's marked 102K. That should be .001uf if I've translated the naming convention correctly.

Data collected for the .001uf tone cap is as follows:

Tone at zero, volume at 2,4,6,8,10
2 - plenty of volume, deep, low mids
4 - very loud low mids
6 - thunderous loud (loud underlined two times) low mids
8 - shaking the room apart loud (loud underlined three times)
10 - high mids rolled in, loud, loud, loud (each loud underlined twice)

Tone at 3, volume settings same as above
2 - smooth very useable volume
4 - very loud mids kicking in
6 - same but much louder
8 - much too loud, shaking everything in the room
10 - high mids added, too too too loud, painful, must stop

Tone at 5, volume settings same as above
2 - mid lows very loud
4 - same but much louder
6 - no huge change in volume or tone (blown ear drum?) but still very loud
8 - high mids kicked in, too loud for comfort
10 - brighter, louder, more painful, cutting test off while I still have ear drums!

The killer cap! As best I can tell all looks correct

Note: the orange drop cap marked 102K is not a .1uf cap as I had originally noted. I was corrected, it's actually a .001uf cap. All test results still stand. And yes, its an absolute wrecking ball!
At the end of the day I went with the .022uf cap as the best all around cap for the Goth, but who knows, some day I might drop that .001 cap back in and blow the doors off the house.

That's the one, marked 102K. It's a monster with the Goth pups which are wound very hot, up around 14K ohms.

Yep, they are the Big Birds of Thunderbirds alright. I liked the Roto flats, but have to admit the EB Cobalts sounded better to me, by a fair amount. They just had a little extra something, including the finger thing I seem to can't help but notice. But the Rotos are really nice and I think you will be pleased. Might need to lower your action (that's a cool thing to tell someone!), as they are stiff, but very playable. But I got the sissy lighter gauge and found them more stiff than I like. But with low action they are nice and a great match on a VP.

It should be interesting to see how it does with the Gibson pickups, which are only about 9.5k
