Factorbird (completed late '90s) - 3-piece V-joint Koa body to '64 T-bird II specs, 32" scale, '94 Philip Kubicki lined fretless Ex-Factor neck and '86 (pre FCS) tuner/bridge, G&L MFD pu's and 9v L-2000 preamp, currently strung BEAD (low A w/open capo) No neck dive. :)

this - As much as I appreciate the Epi VP as the best RI of the original reversed T-bird, it wouldn't offer anything that my 4 birds already do in spades. I do like the late '60s NR but my Coral satisfies my jones for that 'look' and sounds /plays exceptionally.

Finding an Ex-Factor neck and tuner/bridge would be very difficult and if they would come up for sale would be very expensive. I had a few (bought used when they were affordable) Ex-Factors at one point and scavenged one as it was missing the original pu's and electronics harness. (the unique characteristic sound of a Kubicki) The neck I bought new from Phil in '94. It was $500 then as was the tuner bridge, which he stopped selling around that time to keep a stock for new Ex-Factor orders. They are pretty sophisticated castings with those tractor gears. The body was done with the help of a skilled carpenter friend - some very tricky measuring and routing to create the cavity for the tuner/bridge unit and shape the wings so they taper as on an original T-bird. The Koa was really old and it's dense and heavy wood - perfect for a fretless. I currently don't have a recording of it, but is sounds very good - 'mwah' but not excessively.

I'll concede the point that perhaps you don't need another Thunderbird (my ocd would make me get one, though. Or get rid of one. 3 or 5! Not 4 :( ).

Thanks! That one was recorded live in the studio with everyone playing, I think I'd only shown the band how to play it the day before or so, but figured it was a cool little tidbit when we listened back to the recording. I never have learned the original bassline, just how to play the chords on bass!
