I'd have to wonder at the overall care being taken of that bass, I mean, I had a '73 Rick that I beat the living daylights out of for at least 30 years and it didn't look like that.

A finish checking like that has less to do with player use/abuse and more to do with temperature changes - being left in a cold and/or hot trunk of a car/van. That is a form of neglect or at least nonchelonce about ones instrument. Considering that checking, a potential buyer would have to consider what those temperature extremes which caused it to look like that did to the wood itself.

Could be - here in CA being generally moderate no - but in the midwest or north? Attics can be swelteringly hot and freezing cold depending on the time of year. So can your car trunk if the car is left outside before or after a gig for hours.

I was on the fence about grabbing that black Orville from the classified, then wound up missing the sale by a few minutes. Oh well! Today I contacted a local selling an Epi custom shop limited edition ‘Bird in a really interesting color for really cheap. I contacted the guy and told him I’d be in his area on a bike ride. We set up a time and I contacted him when I was back in my car in his neighborhood. After about 30 minutes later with no response, I just went home. Over two hours later he contacted me to say he forgot I was coming over! I politely said it was pretty uncool to just leave someone sitting in their car waiting and said “good luck on the sale.” That’s two ‘Birds that got away this weekend

Exactly. I’m not upset about the bass. I just have an extra Lollar pu, bridge and tuners and thought it could be a fun project bass. It’s the fact that I scheduled myself to be in his neighborhood so he wouldn’t have to do anything but hand off the bass and collect some dough. And he was perfectly content to let me sit in my car indefinitely waiting on him to send me his address. I even sent my phone number. A bit beyond inconsiderate if you ask me

I played shorties back in the day. I went long when I resumed playing. I’ve enjoyed playing my little Mustang that I got to travel with me (when I was doing that regularly pre-Covid). But it’s not a Tbird. The SS Tbird was kind of a Unicorn for me and given the chance, just had to do it. And with my wife’s encouragement! I’m really honored to be able to become its owner.

That sucks.

The LE Custom Shop Epis are superb basses. The PB has a beautiful sparkle finish.
