Thunderbird Club

Tonight was Yo La Tengo's Hanukkah show. They usually do all eight nights, but this year they did one virtual show. Not quite as great as seeing them live, but better than nothing. Most interesting thing to me was that James McNew, their bassist, was playing a Thunderbird. 2019, I figure, due to the incongruous chrome hardware with black pickups. Why that's interesting to me is that I've been seeing them live since the mid-'90s and as long as I can remember, he's always played an old Fender Jazz. I'm curious if he's been talking to Geddy Lee.

wonder if Gibson’s aware many can’t stand three points....

Hey Thunderbird brothers and sisters..
Just a PSA as we all (hopefully)move forward to playing out live again..and I believe that this is the only safe path.
I got the first vaccine shot on Wednesday.I experienced no side effects and my arm was only slightly sore for a day and a half.My second shot is scheduled for Jan 5th
I know we are all looking forward to a better new year.Im hoping as this (and other) vaccines become available to everyone that we will all be back in clubs playing live by early summer. 8CDAEBC9-4E5C-4E87-A595-E986EAA72E64.jpeg
I can’t wait for this all to be over.until then stay as safe as you can.We are almost there.
Cheers!

For your-and most of y'all's sake-I hope you're right. For us in South FL, our "tseason"(sic) is basically mid November to May, so we're screwed.:(

Awesome! I like his playing. He has risen to new heights now.

They know. Don’t know what they paid Babicz (or if Babicz got short changed during the financial problems) for the bridges they supplied for a few years. But a three point is a heck of a lot cheaper than a Babicz. Or a Hipshot Supertone.
I'd replace the bridge on my 67 w/ a Supertone, but I'm leaving it 'stock'(except for the PG-and I still have the original)and the fact that it's the bridge and claw rig. I immediately replaced the 3 point on my recently acquired (used...er, preowned)EB-0 w/ a Hipshot.

didn’t know a Supertone makes a viable replacement for a 60’s two piece..

I’m planning to wait to mess with replacing the incoming short scale’s bridge as there are no issues with it. But a Babicz will go on it at some point. I don’t windmill and I prefer the Babicz aesthetics. But the Hipshot is also great on the Goth I have.

We know some nurses, one my wife’s cousin, who will be getting them soon. I’m not essential, so it’ll be a a while for my number to come up. My wife might be able to get it next month, but they don’t know at this point.

This is what we were told we were getting.

Concept unveiling.

This is what we got.

Before the Aztec was cancelled though, its looks were greatly improved and we ended up with this as its last iteration. Some collect the ugly duckling version for the goof of it and some seek out the later iteration because it wasn't a bad utility vehicle.

This vehicle was built out of the minivan part's bin and it had a shortened minivan platform. That's what the bean counters forced the design team to do to keep program costs down. A perfect example of "penny wise and pound foolish" if there ever was one.

in my line of work our reference to that is: "Tripping over dollars to save pennies", gets frustrating at times.

I just told them that I played a Thunderbird and they moved me to the front of the line. :)

You still have Jarts? I kinda miss playing mumbledipeg with Jarts. It was so much more dangerous than with a hunting knife. What about BB gun wars? Stuuuuuuupid!

Yeah, it's a miracle any of us survived intact. I even have all my own teeth somehow. And can still play a Thunderbird every now and then.
omg I thought the BB gun fights was so stupid, I din't have any fun and would at some point sneak away. usually went home.

isn't it funny how the "most intelligent" species always finds a way to Naturally Select?
I’m biting my lip to avoid making a political comment:D
Since we’re off topic, did I show you guys this repair I did? It’s a speaker grill for an antique radio cabinet my wife bought for our entryway. There were 4-5 breaks and a missing piece.

The speaker is a really early design. I was going to hook it up to something, but DC resistance is around 1K.
