Thunderbird Club

Thunderbirds were part of the stable for nineties alternative bands. here's a couple.

This one is a bit of an oddball because the original bass line was recorded using a Musicman stingray in the very capable hands of Josephine Wiggs who wasn't even in the band when this performance was done. But hearing that epic bass line being done on a vintage sixties Thunderbird played upside down is still cool.

Looks like the Whale guy's Thunderbird has been thoroughly violated.

I've been listening to/learning this, I hadn't ever watched the video until very recently, I'd swear there's a shot in Pt. Angeles, WA near the beginning - More likely it's Vancouver Island with perhaps a scene shot at The Buchart Gardens @Engle maybe you can shed some light on this for me?

Great song, still more than relevant.

First time I've watched the video, but I've always love the song. From the first note, it's powerful- musically and lyrically. Now I'll have to work on learning it, too. Thanks! (And yes to relevance.)

That sent me down a Costello rabbit hole on YouTube where I ran across this...

Never really paid much attention to EC but that's some pretty solid bass playing, not to mention maybe the most tastefully done bass slap I've come across to date. I might have to pay more attention to his music in the future. Thx.

As he was a giant - a T-bird looks right for his size!

Interesting 'technique' playing with both hands covered in a sweater...

Cool his using a gen1 T-bird - usually the oldest you see being played is a '70s version or newer.

Here's the one I need to re-learn, some pretty sharp playing.

One of my favourite songs! Never seen the video.
It sure looks like Vancouver. The beach is probably Spanish Banks, the tropical plants scene is likely in the Conservatory at Little Mountain - kind of a biodome, which would explain why they didn’t bring in the keyboard or drums. The totem poles are at Stanley Park .
Since they were hitting landmarks, the club scene might be the Commodore.

Stanley Park, of course! This just points up the fact that I need to come visit Vancouver when the time is right, it's been far too long!

Thanks man, it's probably also the reason why you own a Thunderbird, those are MASSIVE basses.

Unfortunately, I don't own TBirds anymore, but I did have a Gibson 2008 sunburst until this fall and a white Epi Classic Pro IV a few years ago.
Since an operation late last year, some instruments became uncomfortable to play, including the TBird, unfortunately. God I miss that bass... I still come around here once in a while though.

You're always welcome here!

I didn't know Schaller made a Gibson branded 3D style bridge! It's sort of a cross between a 3D and a BA. In a related note - Schaller makes proprietary riser plates for their 3D bridges.

The Schaller bridge on the Victory and (I think) the Explorer were HUGE!!!

Makes sense as he is married to Diana Krall who, if memory serves, is a BC native (and perhaps a Vancouverite?).
