Thunderbird Club

Unfortunately, I don't own TBirds anymore, but I did have a Gibson 2008 sunburst until this fall and a white Epi Classic Pro IV a few years ago.
Since an operation late last year, some instruments became uncomfortable to play, including the TBird, unfortunately. God I miss that bass... I still come around here once in a while though.
Birds chose you. Who are we to argue with that? Good to see you.

That's pretty cool - is the piece on the top of each saddle for adjusting the height of the saddle? A standard 3D has 2 conventional height-adjustment screws.

I'm really not sure. I haven't seen one in person for several years so I don't remember. Definitely different than the Schaller 3D bridges on my Hamer's.

I love Vancouver....the closest one comes to being in a British city in the Americas imho....

I always thought so as well, beautiful city.

Interesting, we just had some folks from England move in next door. The woman complained about the rain!

English and complaining about rain?

Here's the one I need to re-learn, some pretty sharp playing.

There's some vibe going on in the Universe, I was just re-visiting this yesterday.

I was looking at the Bruce Thomas line because I was firstly revisiting:

Norman Watt-Roy kills.

Either line is beyond my abilities, but I won't get there unless I try.

Makes sense as he is married to Diana Krall who, if memory serves, is a BC native (and perhaps a Vancouverite?).

She's a Vancouver Island gal, Nanaimo lady, grew up and studied there growing up then went to Berklee. She also studied with the amazing Bass Player (multi-instrumentalist multi-talent and fellow Canadian) Don Thompson. She studied in LA, too, she's worked hard.

It's my understanding that she and Mr Costello have a home in Vancouver. They also helped start a "home" for UBC/VGH Hospital Patients' relatives to stay in, very philanthropic, helping those with blood-related cancers.

[EDIT: Oops Engle covered much of this already]

As for Peace Love & Understanding, the song was a Nick Lowe song from the mid-70s, EC & Attractions recorded it in '78 and of course it was on the "Armed Forces" Album in '79. I don't know when the vid came out, all I could find about it, via wiki, is it was directed by Chuck Statler. Krall & Costello were married in ... 2003, I've no idea when they first started seeing each other, but I bet it's probably well after Statler was tramping around Stanley Park with Elvis and the band.

Vid itself, yes Stanley Park as was already established, and at the start of the vid the lads are looking across Burrard Inlet to the North Shore Mountains above North Vancouver (for those that may not know, North Van is a separate city from Vancouver); the sulfer-shipping industry is part of nailing that ID. Were it shot from Spanish Banks you'd have seen Stanley Park from afar and the sulfer-shipping would be hidden by the Park, but with North Shore Mtns still towering above everything: L-R Cypress Mtn, Grouse Mtn, Mt Fromme, Mt Seymour. As for the Commodore, possible, probable even, but I couldn't see well enough in the vid to confirm; the dancefloor there is crazy fun — just stand 'still' in the middle and you'll pogo whether you want to or not because of all the dancers around you moving the floor.

Ahhh I miss my ol' MTBing grounds. *sigh*

Not me. But soon hope to be through a tt800 and an as yet to be decided upon cab.
If you don't mind weight, you could probably get a really good deal on a used SWR Goliath series cab. I'm really happy with my 410 and the Queen is really happy with her 6 or 810. Sounds great with a GK head, so it should sound just as great with the Subway.

I'm going to go ahead and give myself full marks:
BC native - check
Vancouverite - check.

I love Nanaimo bars.

+1

My sister made the BEST Nanaimo bars.

Nanaimo's bars, were pretty rough — at least the one's my GF took me to when we went over from Van to visit her parents...

Middleschool geography quiz the teacher had a dot midway up Vancouver Island, I wracked my brain until I finally remembered "NANAIMO!"
I got it wrong. Teacher said it was Victoria, I pointed out Victoria is at the southernmost tip of Vancouver Island, she didn't like that: "You should've known it was Victoria, all the rest of the test were large cities." She wouldn't change my grade, I didn't like that.

You need to visit Victoria. And go for tea at the Empress Hotel.

+1!

My Granny's fave place, that and The James Bay Tearoom, which as I understand it is sadly no more...

Burlington eh? (where I watched my Gran and Great Aunt dance the highland fling, sword dance etc for my Great Gran's 100th; at age of 7 it's a shocking thing to see old people can still move. Same Gran that got me the Kiss Destroyer album and took me to the Bessborough for sherbert (she lived in Saskatoon before relocating to Victoria).

PillO, what made a Vancouverite leave the greenery of the Wet Coast for the bitter winter of the Great Lakes?

I grew up in the city, so spent a fair bit of time at Spanish Banks and Little Mountain.

Please visit Victoria, on Vancouver Island, the provincial seat of government is a strong contender. ;)
I did a big reno at the casino a few years ago. It’s a more laid place back than Vancouver.

Just so ya’ll know, my place is on the way to the ferry that takes you to Victoria or Nanaimo (further North).
So stop by on your way, have a beer or a puff, and check out some basses.:smug:
