Thunderbird Club

Wasn’t someone just asking about a pickup like that in their old TBird?

Well, a while back Jeff put one in his P-bass... it originated in the '80s by Seymour Duncan - the "Hawkbucker" - aimed at T-bird owners from what I know. At least I bought and installed mine in '86.

Affirmative!

Old is not always better. But it is in this case. However, the 06 plays equally as well.

It's been a while since I was in these parts but I've been lurking for a couple weeks and enjoying all the beautiful birds, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I've been a bird fan since 1979, and got my first (a black '76) in 1982.

My old bandmates and I got a drummer on Fiverr and threw this together as a tribute for Syl last week. Though my bass part was recorded months ago. It just took a while to get the rest done; don't look too close at my mimed video clip though, because it's obvious I'd forgotten the nuances of the part by last weekend! I know Sami used a Jazz bass in this era of the Dolls, but Arthur is seen with a bird in a lot of the old clips, so this seemed more appropriate.

Whenever I see a side-by-side comparison it's clear how different (vintage to post-vintage) they are. You'd think someone in the design dept would have a pencil and paper to trace a vintage gen1 ...

Top quality, sir - love it! L-U-V Luv!

Such a great song as well, one of my absolute favourites from the Dolls later years!

I hadn’t heard about the Transformerbird from the NAMM show - turn a knob and it turns into a different one  Lovely birds, mate :bassist:

Thank you! For the record, it's the same bass with electrical tape and a Badbird switched out for the three point. :D

That is awesome! Welcome to the Club.

Hey man nice to see you here! I enjoyed the song! Thanks for sharing it. At some point you should post pics of your flock over the years. Quite the collection of Birds.

That sounds so....logical. Now who's giving them too much credit?:roflmao: This is true and confused me when I got the '06. Why alter what was not a problem? Not to mention PUs that sound little like what people have come to love and expect. Who intentionally messes up a perfect thing? Oh yeah, those who think they are really clever......but are not (Dunning-Kruger effect at play I suspect).

I’m all for adding a variant with a “modern” sound, but (1) keep the original version as well and (2) do something that lets me tell them apart visually- pickup shape, headstock flip, control layout, whatever.
