Thunderbird Club

I never understood the reluctance to simply make a RI, a replica. G&L recently accomplished this with their recent CLF RI's of the L-1000 and L-2000 - dead on replica's. Regardless - anyone who's a geek enough to know would know a vintage version from a brand new version and whatever, all G&L's are good and some people will still want a vintage bass. I would really like to be a fly on the wall at the marketing sessions that determines how far they are going to go to "reintroduce" a classic model of their bass.

"...ah, no Jim... we have a stack of 3-point bridges from China that we need to use up so get that 'authentic concept' out of your head"

Well they obviously have a consistent, low cost supplier of the things. They should add a claw and bridge cover as an option.

Couldn't agree more. Always puzzled me as well. Why not give people what they want, not something close to what they want with tweaks someone thought was very clever idea. Way too much trying to reinvent a perfectly good wheel much of the time. There's a place to explore and create the new, but if you are seeking some vintage vibe, just do it.

That has an elegance that the reissues don't have. I am happy with my reissues, but there is a visual difference. Having never played anything but reissues and briefly a bicentennial, I don't know if the elegance extends to sound and playing.
Affirmative!

Old is not always better. But it is in this case. However, the 06 plays equally as well.

Blown gasket or cracked head at the least. Probably worse, since it won't run. Cracked block perhaps. There's not a lot of ways for coolant and oil to mix. None are good.
He(mechanic) said it lost a bank. wither way he has taken good care of me for twenty years. Tomorrow we talk and most likely go check out a 2011 Jeep Wrangler that is for sale locally for a fair price.

You're giving the suits too much credit. I really doubt decisions have anything to do with anything other than the bottom line. But addressing your take, if I had sway at say, Rickenbacker.., I'd push for a redesign of their bridge. I have seen that they actually did offer this on a recent signature bass (the one with TWO of their (poorly designed) pu covers and (aesthetically debatable) green block neck inlays), but not their high-priced/money-maker standard 4001 models. So commended for staying with the "original" theme Ric.. but...not so much for refusing to fix its (poor) bridge design.

Dang. Just saw this. How did I not think of it ahead of time?

As an avid Jeep fan and previous owner of several Wranglers and Cherokees I'd strongly recommend the 1997-2006 Wrangler with the straight 6 engine. It's by far the most bullet proof model with engines and drive trains lasting for ever. Just find a clean (no rust) used one in the sub 100,000 mile category in your price range and you'll be good to go for decades to come. Check CarGuru.com.

Check titles very carefully to ensure it's not a salvage vehicle, and check carfax for major repairs or body work - a lot of folks off Road them and that can do some pretty nasty things to the mechanical and structural systems as well as body work and paint. But for every one like that there's dozens that have never been off Road. After market options abound so you can do a lot of customizing at reasonable prices to make yours special. Good luck with the hunt.

Donnervogels......

West Coast time.

You really do have the nicest Thunderbirds.

At the risk of being pedantic, the plural would be Donnervögel, and being Thursday is would be Donnervögel Donnerstag. (The literal translation of the German Thursday is Thunderday or Thunder's Day for Thor- so Thunderbird Thunder Day. Poetic somehow)
