Thunderbird Club

You’re defining experts far more narrowly than I am.
Probably. Experts vs. "Experts". The confusion has lead to the distinction (in medical research) of "Key Opinion Leader". Typically a very senior, very well published, academic who is sought to preside over academic conferences. Usually quite helpless outside their field (i.e. need assistance to make restaurant reservations, don't know how to hail or pay for a cab etc.) and make demands commensurate to their position and ego.

And here we are :-)

Mint Epi bolt-on model with hardcase, at less than the Bird's original selling price excluding the taxes. Felt like a deal I couldn't pass, after seeing an Epi Goth (never played those...) and a Pro IV (tried one and didn't bond with it) come and go in the locals within a few days since last week (not sure about my english here... :().

I rented one of those in the past and was amazed at how good it sounded. This one also sounds beautiful and was well taken care of by its previous owner. Original strings, low action, no buzzing. Will get Chromes and a Hipshot Bass Xtender shortly.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a Thunderbird IV, right ? I don't think they make those anymore, at least they're not on the Epi website.

God it feels good to play a Thunderbird again...

Congratulations on your new Bird!
Did I have you on the list before? Help a Queen out here!

Hard to know. Different screw holes though...

Good evening Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. I hope all have had a good weekend. I have to admit, the more I see of these, the better they look. I realize there is zero possibility of one hanging in a shop around here that I could play. I am curious about them, and wondering if the neck would be the same or similar to my 2014 Thunderbird? As I said, I am very intrigued with these and sorely tempted.

I’m making a concentrated effort to do more of my own set up. How much do you need to loosen the strings when adjusting a 3-point? Full step down? More?
If you are adjusting the neck, a lot more. If you are just intonating the bridge, it depends on whether you can get it to move like you need. Different bridges require different amounts of slack.

Yes it is, and apparently they do not. Congrats on the score!

It is! I have this Thunderbird and case. I don’t think they’re the factory strings though, from the red silks and coloured ball ends, I’d say they’re Rotosound Swing Bass strings.
